    Position Title: Bikes Together Shop Programs Lead

    Wage: $24–$26/hour, depending on experience

    Location: This is an in-person role at our shop at 1060 Osage St Denver, CO; potential for work at a new site nearby as well

    Position Type: Full-time, Exempt (36 hours/week average annually)

    Average Hours: Busy season (April–September): 40 hours/week; Slow season (October–March): 32 hours/week

    Schedule: General schedule is Tuesday-Saturday, 11am-7pm with some varying hours required; Flexibility on hours and schedule is possible for the right candidate

    Ideal Start Date: Spring 2026 with flexibility for the right candidate

    ABOUT BIKES TOGETHER

    Bikes Together is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Denver, Colorado. Since 2008, we have promoted equitable access to bicycles and bike education through recycling, education programs, and a social enterprise bike shop. Our work centers education, access, and community care.

    Our team currently includes an Executive Director, Community Programs Director, Service + Operations Director Retail Lead, Retail Bike Mechanic, and several part-time and on-call staff. We work collaboratively with a strong education focus. Our board of directors includes long-time volunteers, mechanics, instructors, and community advocates, and is majority trans/women/intersex/genderqueer (TWIG), with 25% members of color.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Shop Programs Lead is a new position that oversees, executes and improves Bikes Together’s in-shop programming. This role is hands-on and people-centered, focusing primarily on our Learn & Repair (L&R) program, used parts and donation systems, and the Community Partner Bike Program (CPBP). The Shop Programs Lead plays a key role in maintaining a welcoming, safe, and well-organized shop environment for participants, volunteers, and staff.

    This position reports to the Community Programs Director and works closely with shop staff and volunteers. While not a formal supervisory role, this position serves as a lead during programming and is expected to make independent decisions as needed.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Learn & Repair (L&R) Operations (50%)

    Learn & Repair is Bikes Together’s appointment-based, cost-flexible repair program that pairs participants with staff and volunteers to learn hands-on bike repair.

    • Manage L&R appointment sign-ups with support from shop staff
    • Facilitate and run L&R programming 2–3 days per week
    • Delegate tasks, manage appointment flow, and accommodate walk-ins when available
    • Support staff and volunteers with complex repairs and challenging participant situations
    • Serve as lead during programming, addressing conflicts and operational issues
    • Coordinate with the Community Programs Director to ensure volunteers are trained and supported
    • Track appointment data and maintain monthly records
    • Recommend and implement program improvements with attention to staff and volunteer capacity

    Used Parts Area & Donations (30%)

    • Co-manage bicycle donations with shop staff
    • Create and maintain systems for sorting bikes, used parts, and recyclable materials
    • Maintain a safe, organized, and accessible shop and program space
    • Develop systems that enable staff, volunteers, and customers to maintain organization
    • Manage inventory of program supplies and tools
    • Perform repairs on Partner and As-Is/Sidewalk bikes, as time allows
    • Manage the Loaner Tools program in coordination with the Retail Lead

    Community Partner Bike Program (CPBP) (10%)

    • Manage communication with Community Partner Bike Program partners
    • Select, prepare, organize, and maintain partner bike inventory
    • Schedule and facilitate CPBP Learn & Repair appointments
    • Distribute bikes and accessories and follow up on appointments
    • Manage accessory inventory, including ordering, Lightspeed entry, and partner billing

    Shop Support & Coordination (10%)

    • Cross-train in retail and service departments
    • Provide shop support during busy periods or staffing gaps
    • Attend monthly shop meetings and quarterly all-staff meetings
    • Participate in regular check-ins, annual self-evaluation, and goal-setting
    • Contribute to shop cleaning and maintenance (shop, storage, office, bathroom)
    • Help identify operational challenges and collaborate on solutions
    • Support with photo documentation and social media posts
    • Support moving to new location and set-up (if applicable)

    SKILLS + QUALIFICATIONS

    • Ability to and passion for creating a welcoming, accessible bike culture
    • Bike mechanic experience with a wide range of bikes, especially older bikes
    • Teaching or training experience, particularly hands-on or mechanical skills
    • De-escalation skills and a trauma-informed, harm-reduction approach
    • Strong organizational skills and experience managing shared, multi-use spaces
    • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment and managing participant flow
    • Experience setting and enforcing expectations with participants and volunteers, effectively communicates in person and asyncronistically with participants and staff
    • Knowledge of workshop safety and risk management practices
    • Experience working with diverse communities across race, age, class, gender, sexuality, and ability
    • Bilingual or Spanish language skills preferred but not required
    • Familiarity with Google Drive, Lightspeed POS, BetterImpact, preferred or willingness to learn new systems
