    About The Africa Center

The Africa Center (TAC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit institution on New York’s Museum Mile. We convene artists, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and cultural leaders to shape narratives and investments that accelerate a just, prosperous, and peaceful future for Africa and its diaspora.

    Role Overview

The Director steers the Global Africa Gateway, TAC's flagship partnership with Afreximbank linking African and diaspora markets, capital, and trade. The post mobilizes funding, cultivates strategic partnerships and converts research into high-impact public programming. The role requires building trusted relationships across diaspora communities, commissioning and managing research partnerships, and serving as primary liaison to Afreximbank and other strategic partners. The Director represents TAC in multilateral, philanthropic, and academic forums while translating complex economic insights into accessible public content. Success will be measured by partnership agreements secured, research outputs delivered, program participation rates, and fundraising targets achieved.

    Key Responsibilities

    Africa-Diaspora Trade and Investment Engagement

    • Advance understanding of instruments for diaspora engagement, including equity funds supporting export-driven African companies, savings vehicles, and remittance-backed lending
    • Design and convene diaspora-focused forums, learning exchanges, and exploratory trade visits that build trust and surface opportunities
    • Cultivate and maintain donor, foundation, and corporate relationships to secure funding for diaspora-related programs and research
    • Amplify Africa–diaspora commercial linkages through TAC’s platform

    Strategic Research and Knowledge Translation

    • Oversee the Global Africa Gateway Research Study and related projects.
    • Produce actionable insights on diaspora finance, savings, remittances, and entrepreneurship
    • Commission and manage research partners; ensure findings inform programming and policy

    Community Partnership and Civic Exchange

    • Build relationships with civic leaders and institutions serving African-descended communities
    • Lead public education and cultural exchange initiatives related to economic issues
    • Maintain trusted dialogue across diaspora hubs

    Narrative Integration and Public Programming

    • Translate strategic insights into exhibitions, convening, policy briefs, and digital content
    • Surface culture-heritage opportunities that boost youth employment and economic inclusion
    • Collaborate with internal teams to embed economic initiatives into TAC’s programming

    Partnership Stewardship and Program Delivery

    • Serve as a liaison to Afreximbank and other strategic partners
    • Lead implementation of the Global Africa Gateway program, manage timelines and budgets
    • Deliver quarterly strategic briefs synthesizing research and engagement outcomes; represent TAC in multilateral, philanthropic, academic, and cultural forums

    Candidate Profile

    • Master’s degree in business, finance, economics, public policy, international development, or related field
    • Minimum 8 years’ leadership in finance, diaspora economic engagement, or research
    • Proven track record of successful partnerships with financial institutions, investors, or entrepreneurial organizations, with reference verification required
    • Prior success raising six- or seven-figure grants, sponsorships, or co-financing
    • Minimum 5 years working directly with African or African-diaspora organizations, demonstrated through employment, board service, or consulting relationships
    • Ability to operate within U.S. nonprofit legal and compliance frameworks
    • Experience translating technical or financial content into accessible public products
    • Experience supervising staff or managing cross-functional project teams
    • Willingness to travel internationally up to 25% of time, including to African markets
    • Proficiency in French or Portuguese is a plus given African market focus

This position advances TAC’s mission by aligning investments, insights, and partnerships to support a prosperous and secure future for Africa and its diaspora.
