    About Us

The Massachusetts Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (MCAAP) is a member organization of over 1,600 pediatricians committed to the attainment of optimal physical, mental, and social health for all infants, children, adolescents, and their families, and to supporting the medical professionals who care for them. Our chapter works to support its membership through advocacy, education, and community, and to share timely, credible pediatric health information with the public.

    Position Overview

MCAAP seeks a part-time Communications and Social Media Manager to help us tell our story and stay connected with our members and the broader community. This role will work closely with the officers and with the Executive Director to develop and distribute communications via email, social media, and other channels. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys writing, storytelling, and community engagement, and who wants to support a mission-driven organization focused on child health.

This is a part-time position, approximately 10 hours per week, with flexible scheduling, ideal for someone balancing other professional or personal commitments.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage and grow the Chapter's presence on social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X/Twitter), including creating and original content and curating content produced by other influencers
    • Draft and distribute member communications, including announcements and newsletters, in collaboration with Chapter leadership
    • Post occasional updates to the Chapter website, www.mcaap.org, in collaboration with Chapter leadership
    • Curate and share relevant content from the national AAP, partner organizations, and credible pediatric health sources
    • Collaborate with the Executive Director and officers to align messaging with Chapter priorities, advocacy efforts, and events
    • Monitor social media engagement and respond to comments or messages in a manner consistent with the Chapter's voice and values
    • Help maintain a consistent brand voice and visual identity across all communications channels
    • Track basic performance metrics (open rates, engagement, follower growth) and share periodic updates with leadership
    • Support communications needs for Chapter events, campaigns, and initiatives as they arise

    Qualifications

    • Experience in communications, social media management, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field is required
    • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, English, or a related field is preferred
    • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to translate complex or clinical topics into clear, engaging content for varied audiences
    • Familiarity with major social media platforms and basic content scheduling/design tools (e.g., Canva, Hootsuite, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or similar)
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently while incorporating feedback from multiple stakeholders
    • Interest in or familiarity with pediatric health, child advocacy, or nonprofit/association work is a plus, but not required
    • Comfortable working in a small, part-time, remote/flexible team environment

    Details

    • Hours:Approximately 10 hours per week; flexible scheduling
    • Location: Remote
    • Reports to: Executive Director, in coordination with Chapter Officers
