    Descripción

    Vision Ed Inc is a nonprofit education organization that brings project-based STEAM programming to students in underrepresented and underserved communities throughout the New York City area. To-date, we have served over to 2,000 children in grades K-12, through original and collaborative programming.

    We are looking for an After School Chess Instructor to teach the basics of Chess to elementary and middle school students in East New York, Brooklyn. This is a unique opportunity to create lessons and activities in a student-centered environment and inspire kids in both arts and technology to help foster 21st century skills and creativity.

    This after-school club is part of a larger, state-funded grant program, for which Vision Ed Inc is one of several providers. The teacher will work closely with the Program Director, Site Coordinator, and school staff and administration.

    Pay is $40-45 per hour, for two 1-hour class sessions twice per week, for a total of 4 teaching hours a week. We are looking for someone to start around October 15, 2026, pending necessary paperwork and clearances (PETS and SACC).

    Responsibilities:

    • After-School Chess Instructors for after-school programs are responsible for planning and leading structured activities for students in grades K-5, depending on site assignment
    • Successfully lead after-school activities with groups of students
    • Work collaboratively with co-workers who assist in the classroom;
    • Submit written lesson plans in a timely manner;
    • Take and submit accurate daily attendance
    • Effectively manage the classroom and address student behavior issues in a positive, professional manner;
    • Communicate clearly and positively with students, co-workers, and supervisors;
    • Maintenance of the classroom and supplies
    • MUST be available, on-time, and prepared to work during assigned hours
    • For all students and all levels, we teach students to play chess and help them succeed in school by stimulating their problem-solving skills, analytical skills, and critical thinking

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    • Experience or coursework with Chess.
    • Experience teaching or mentoring kids
    • Excellent grammar and presentation skills.
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Strong classroom/group management skills.
    • Must show initiative, creativity, and ability to work independently.
    • Must be self-motivated and have an energetic disposition.
