    ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

    The mission of Oakland Kids First (OKF) is to increase youth voice, leadership, and power to

    create engaging and equitable public schools where all students learn and achieve. Founded in

    1996 by a multi-racial coalition of youth serving agencies, Oakland Kids First uses youth

    leadership development, service provision, and youth organizing to provide youth with the

    skills and opportunities to both navigate and transform systems.

    Position Overview

    Under the supervision of Oakland Kids First’s Castlemont Community School Initiative Senior

    Manager, the After School Program Assistant supports the daily operations of afterschool

    programs at Castlemont High School. We are looking for an organized, detail-oriented,

    creative, and collaborative community builder with youth development and operations

    experience. The ideal candidate would be a loving resource for students who can effectively

    coordinate with adult staff and help build a strong after-school culture that meets daily

    attendance goals.

    Job Responsibilities include:

    • Maintain a positive, student-centered, asset-based, and inclusive program environment.
    • Maintain systems of data collection for all required documentation including: enrollment forms, emergency cards, permission slips, snack sign in, and receipt tracking.
    • Ensure the program follows all compliance requirements for daily master sign-in/out, early release, and snack distribution and reporting according to district requirements.
    • Complete attendance data entry for all Castle Cares and Knight Time activities.
    • Coordinate daily operational logistics of afterschool program, including classroom management and distribution then collection of attendance sign in sheets
    • Support youth recruitment efforts at program launches, lunch and school events.
    • Maintain awareness of key school programs including information on policies, behavior expectations and available activities.
    • Assist with school events such as Back to School Night, Field Day, culture and climate
    • events, end of semester celebrations, Knight Heroes awards, field trips, etc.
    • Support with afterschool program social media page.
    • Support with distribution of monthly youth stipends and academic incentives.
    • Provide homework assistance and tutoring support as needed.
    • Assist with information dissemination about events and activities through community outreach, presence at recruitment activities, and making outreach phone calls.
    • Support evaluation and surveying of program activities at the end of each semester.
    • Attend OUSD trainings and Oakland Kids First meetings as assigned by supervisor.
    • Provide general administrative support to program staff as needed.

    Compensación

    An offer of employment is contingent on passing a criminal background screening and TB test

    every few years. All employees must complete training in Professional Boundaries, mandatory

    reporting, and sexual harassment prior to beginning work with youth.

    COMPENSATION:

    • Position is non-exempt and typically 20 hours per week, with a starting hourly wage range between $30.00 -$32.00, depending on experience and qualifications.
    • Schedule operates on a school year calendar and employee must be available between August 10, 2026 - May 20, 2027.
    • Paid time off for holidays, sick time, and restoration weeks aligned with OUSD breaks.
    • Note, part time employees who work under 25 hours weekly are ineligible for health/dental benefits.

    Nivel de Idiomas

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • At least 1 year of prior administrative experience with track record of performing basic
    • administrative tasks and keeping detailed records.
    • At least 1 year of work experience in youth development programming.
    • Prior experience working with high school aged youth from diverse communities.
    • High school diploma required; enrollment and progress towards higher education degree encouraged.
    • Must be able to work 3-4 days a week during after school hours; typically 3:30-6pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and 2-5pm on Wednesday, for a full academic year.
    • Some evening and weekends required for events.
    • Strong communication, organization, writing, and team-building skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects, working independently and as a team-member.
    • Flexibility, sense of humor, strong commitment to collaboration, self-reflection, and resourcefulness.
    • Ability to lift 20 lbs and engage in physical activities such as transporting snack and event materials, and engaging in active ice breakers and team-builders.
    • Valid driver’s license, vehicle registration and insurance.
