    JOB TITLE: Paralegal

    POSITION TYPE: Full-Time

LOCATION: Washington, DC — In-Person Only

STARTING SALARY RANGE: $55,000 – $60,000, commensurate with experience

    ABOUT MOTHER’S OUTREACH NETWORK

Mother’s Outreach Network (MON) is a Washington, DC-based nonprofit providing legal representation, guaranteed income advocacy, and mother-led policy work for families navigating the family regulation system. We support families across all DC wards with a concentrated focus on Wards 5, 6, 7, and 8. MON is headquartered in Washington, DC.

    WHY MON

Mother’s Outreach Network is not a traditional legal services organization. We are a transformative advocacy organization with a deep focus on families — particularly Black mothers — who have been targeted by the family policing system. Our legal program is one part of a larger fight — alongside guaranteed income advocacy and mother-led policy work — to dismantle the systems that criminalize poverty and separate families. If you are looking for work that is rigorous, relational, and deeply meaningful, MON is the place.

    POSITION SUMMARY

MON seeks a dedicated and detail-oriented Paralegal to support its legal program. The Paralegal will work directly under the supervision of Executive Director Melody Webb, Esq. to support all aspects of MON’s legal representation of parents and families involved in the family policing and family regulation systems. This is a full-time, in-person position. There is no remote or hybrid option. Candidates must be currently residing in the Washington, DC metro area. Relocation assistance is not provided. This position requires full-time availability and must serve as the candidate’s primary professional commitment. Candidates with outside obligations that would interfere with full-time duties are not eligible.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide paralegal support across MON’s legal program areas, including CFSA investigation defense, Child Protection Register expungement, CFSA administrative and appellate matters, and tax clinic
    • Maintain and update client matter records in Clio, including status tags, next action dates, correspondence logs, and court dates
    • Prepare, organize, and file legal documents and correspondence under attorney supervision
    • Conduct client intake, maintain the intake call log, and coordinate client communications
    • Monitor and track court dates, filing deadlines, and hearing schedules and ensure attorneys are calendared accordingly
    • Draft routine correspondence, retainer agreements, and closure communications for attorney review
    • Organize and maintain client files in MON’s Google Shared Drive and case management systems
    • Support the daily legal summary review process
    • Perform legal research and prepare summaries under attorney supervision
    • Provide general administrative support to the legal team as needed

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Must Have: Minimum 1–2 years of paralegal or legal support experience, preferably in family law, civil legal aid, or public interest law; bachelor’s degree required; strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail; ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment; demonstrated commitment to racial justice, economic equity, and the rights of families
    • Preferred: Familiarity with DC Superior Court and/or administrative agency proceedings; familiarity with DC communities and the systems that impact families; trauma-informed background or experience working with individuals who have experienced trauma; experience with Clio or comparable legal case management software
    • Nice to Have: Experience working with or in communities most impacted by the family regulation system; advanced degree
