PRIMARY STEM and Humanities positions in beach-jungle school in PUERTO RICO

The school: Montemar Academy is a new bilingual, International Baccalaureate, place-based, international, boutique school in beautiful Rincon, Puerto Rico. The school is starting in Fall 2027 and is seeking its founding faculty, 4-5 positions for K-5th grade. A new school with ambitious plans, Montemar Academy aspires to become the premier international school on the island's west coast. Poised in a region that is undergoing significant growth, we expect to grow within 5 years into a school serving K-12th grade students.

The curriculum will be bilingual, International Baccalaureate, and will initially work with multigrade-level groups. The school will have significant outdoor, green & blue, experiential learning components that use our beautiful islands' biological, geological, and cultural diversity. Puerto Rican culture and history will also be at center stage. The school is driven by the following key themes:

The setting: Our campus will be within walking distance to some of the most amazing beaches of Puerto Rico and less than an hour's drive from a multitude of natural wonders, including dry forests, rainforest, and mangrove swamps. The islands of Desecheo and Mona are nearby. Surfing, hiking, horseback riding, snorkeling, SCUBA, fishing, and many other nature-related activities abound.

Rincon is a thriving surfing tourist town with plenty of restaurants, a bustling nightlife, and a place of art and crafts. Cultural and musical events abound. Mayaguez, where a major university campus resides, is 30 minutes away. San Juan, Puerto Rico's bustling capital, is 2.5 hours away.

Life in the tourist town of Rincon is slow-paced, tranquil, and based on outdoor activities. It is a place for nature lovers!

• Possess outdoor skills on water and on land. A passion for nature and water-based activities, including overnight field trips, kayaking, snorkeling, and camping. Knowledgeable about the ocean and capable of integrating ocean themes, experiences, and activities into the curriculum. This is a signature part of the school.

• Someone who loves living in an ocean and jungle setting, where life is defined by nature.
• An entrepreneurial adventurer who aspires to be part of a small team, building a school.
• A university degree in a relevant area of knowledge and 3 years of teaching experience. Outstanding recent graduates may be considered.
• Native English language proficiency. Bilingual - English/Spanish (we will be a bilingual school with half of the courses in Spanish, the other half in English).
• Ability to teach mixed grade-level groups. Our first few years, we will have mixed grade-level groups.

Teaching couples with children and single parents are most welcome.

Salary and Benefits:

• An above-market salary between $3,000-$5,000 per month ($35,000 to $60,00 per year)

START dates and calendar year - The Founding Faculty work calendar begins on July 15th as we prepare our campus for initial opening. The school's academic calendar is September to June.
