    COLLEGE ACCESS PROGRAM ADVISOR – WOONSOCKET HIGH SCHOOL

    About College Visions: College Visions (CV) empowers low-income, first-generation students to achieve the promise of higher education. Through early college exploration and preparation, individualized college application support, and college success coaching, CV helps students enroll, persist, and graduate from college. Founded in 2004, CV began its journey with 10 students and has grown to reach over 500 young people annually. 97% of participants enroll in college, and 71% earn a degree within 6 years, far surpassing local and national norms.     Summary: College Visions is seeking a dedicated College Access Program (CAP) Advisor who will support a caseload of Woonsocket High School (WHS) students through early college and career planning and the college application process. Based primarily at Woonsocket High School, the CAP advisor is responsible for helping 9th through 11th graders build college knowledge, develop academic skills, and identify clear post-secondary pathways, and ensure 12th-grade students complete the full college application process and successfully transition to college. Through individual advising meetings, workshops, and the coordination of college and career exploration activities, the CAP advisor will help build a college-going culture at WHS and increase the number of students to enter college after high school graduation. The CAP advisor will also support CV’s Woonsocket Summer programming. As a member of College Visions’ CAP team, the CAP advisor will receive training and ongoing support from CV and will participate in regular team meetings at the CV office in Providence.

    Management: The College Access Program Advisor reports to CV’s Director of Programs.

    Hours: This is a full-time position. Typical hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with opportunities for some remote work, depending on student and program needs. Occasional evening or weekend hours are required.

    Responsibilities

    Student Advising

    • Recruit and support a caseload of WHS students in grades 9-12, providing individual college access advising through one-on-one coaching and mentorship.
    • Guide a cohort of high school seniors through every step of the college application process, including individualized college lists, crafting college essays, resumes, completing applications, securing financial aid packages, and making informed college decisions.
    • Plan and facilitate student workshops, “Lunch and Learns” that highlight important college topics and respond to students’ evolving needs.
    • Coordinate campus visits, career exploration activities, and other enrichment opportunities to broaden students' perspectives on colleges and postsecondary options.
    • Cultivate strong relationships with colleges and advocate for students in the college admission process.
    • Communicate regularly with students and families to provide guidance and support.
    • Stay informed on college access topics, trainings, scholarships, and programs.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date advising records and program trackers (contact information, demographics, and program outcomes).

    CV Woonsocket Summer Prep, Events, and Program Development

    • Serve as an instructor for the Woonsocket Summer Prep Program, a five-week college and career exploration program held annually from July to August
    • Collaborate with WHS staff, CV Team members, and community partners to support student success.
    • Plan and lead monthly workshops focused on college access, career readiness, and student-centered topics.
    • Work to cultivate and maintain a strong partnership between CV and WHS.
    • Support the coordination and facilitation of CAP events and workshops, including college campus trips and admissions representative visits to WHS.
    • Support the research and development of college partnerships to facilitate broader options for students.

    Professional Growth

    • Participate in ongoing college access training and seek out external professional development opportunities
    • Engage in ongoing learning to gain familiarity with best practices and emerging research in the field
    • Strive for excellence, reflect on challenges, and celebrate victories

    Programming, Fundraising, Administration + Other Activities

    • Document events and activities on an ongoing basis.
    • Contribute to the development of new strategic initiatives across the organization.
    • Support the organization's fundraising activities as needed.
    • Promote CV in Rhode Island and the college access sector.
    • Handle administrative tasks including student data entry, maintenance of records, adherence to financial and HR policies, and upkeep of office space.

    Annual salary: $50,000, generous time off, and benefits.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in education, youth development, or a related field
    • Youth development or school-based experience working with low-income, first-generation students
    • Reliable Transportation
    • Deep, well-articulated commitment to CV’s mission
    • Fluency in Spanish or a second language is a major plus.
    • Strong writing, organizational, and communication skills
    • Self-motivated, able to work collaboratively, energetic, positive, and flexible
