Baltimore SquashWise is committed to building a diverse squash community that brings Baltimore together. Through youth development, community squash, and engagement opportunities, we expand access to squash and create meaningful connections among young people, families, players, partners, and supporters throughout Baltimore.
The SquashWise Center is a hub for Baltimore's broader squash community, bringing together youth programming, community participation, memberships, coaching, events, partnerships, and philanthropy.
We are seeking an entrepreneurial and community-focused professional to help us grow this community and expand our impact.
Position Summary
The Community Engagement & Development Manager will lead the growth of SquashWise's community squash programs, expand membership, develop sustainable revenue opportunities, and strengthen relationships throughout Baltimore.
This position combines community engagement, business development, program management, facility operations, and fundraising support.
The successful candidate will develop and implement strategies to increase participation, build a thriving membership program, coordinate community programming, and help establish the SquashWise Center as a welcoming destination for players and community members of all backgrounds.
The position will also collaborate with the Development Director to support fundraising, donor engagement, corporate partnerships, and organizational events.
Key Responsibilities
Membership Growth & Business Development
- Develop and implement a business growth plan for community squash memberships, including membership targets, revenue goals, program offerings, and facility utilization.
- Recruit, onboard, and engage members while maintaining accurate membership records.
- Develop inclusive membership opportunities that expand access to squash.
- Generate revenue through memberships, coaching, clinics, court rentals, camps, corporate events, and other community programming.
- Track membership growth, revenue, participation, and facility utilization to evaluate performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
Community Engagement & Programming
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, universities, corporations, members, volunteers, donors, and alumni.
- Plan and manage year-round community programming, including Community Nights, tournaments, leagues, clinics, lessons, and corporate team-building events.
- Coordinate independent and contracted squash coaches and provide introductory and beginner squash coaching.
- Serve as the primary contact for individuals and organizations interested in facility rentals and community events.
- Support youth programming, recruitment, afterschool activities, field trips, and school-based physical education clinics.
Fundraising & Development
- Collaborate with the Development Director to support fundraising initiatives, donor engagement, and corporate partnerships.
- Assist with the annual SquashWise Rally, Giving Tuesday, year-end giving, friendraisers, Board engagement events, and other fundraising campaigns.
- Cultivate relationships that encourage community members to become volunteers, donors, and long-term supporters.
Facility Operations & Administration
- Manage member check-in, court reservations, scheduling, and facility rental systems.
- Maintain accurate information in Salesforce, Club Locker, Raptor, Eventbrite, and other organizational systems.
- Oversee community squash equipment, fitness equipment, court supplies, and Pro Shop inventory.
- Help ensure community spaces are clean, organized, safe, and welcoming.
- Coordinate facility operations and troubleshoot scheduling and reservation issues.
Marketing & Communications
- Support community-focused marketing through social media, newsletters, membership highlights, event promotions, and other communications.
- Develop engaging content that highlights SquashWise's programs, members, and community impact.
- Collaborate across departments to advance organizational goals and strengthen community relationships.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
- 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit development, business planning, fundraising, communications, event management, or related fields.
- 3–5 years of squash playing experience and sufficient skill to coach introductory and beginner squash programs.
- Experience working in an entrepreneurial or rapidly growing organization.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop strategies, manage projects, and achieve measurable results.
- Understanding of membership development, program revenue generation, and community engagement.
- Strong writing and storytelling skills for marketing, social media, and external communications.
- Ability to manage multiple programs, events, schedules, systems, and priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an environment with evolving priorities.
- Ability to learn new technologies and use data to evaluate performance.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, accessibility, and building a welcoming community.
- Must successfully complete required background checks upon hire and annually, including applicable state and federal criminal records and other relevant screenings.
