    Job Summary

    LION Publishers is a professional journalism association that serves more than 400 (and growing!) independent news publishers across the U.S. and Canada. We provide members with resources, training and support as they build and develop sustainable news businesses that serve their communities.

    LION’s Salesforce Administrator will succeed in their role by maintaining and improving LION’s central database in Salesforce and connected systems that allow LION staff, our members and our funders to manage and track their work, interact with membership benefits and glean insights about the independent news industry. They will work closely with the Associate Director of Product to iterate and support LION’s internal systems, empowering the rest of the team to do their best work. Our ideal candidate brings experience in Salesforce administration (especially NPSP), a product-oriented mindset, and a collaborative approach to problem solving.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support technical product development pipeline [40%]
      • Own initial triage of new feature requests, collecting all needed information from key stakeholders and prioritizing within the backlog
      • Assist discovery sessions across the organization to assess technology needs and consult on implementation plans
      • Update technology product projects, transparently maintaining development pipeline
      • Assist internal quality assurance processes
      • Contribute to library of end user training materials for LION’s tech systems, conduct group and 1:1 user trainings to facilitate internal user adoption
    • Execute tech stack and systems management [40%]
      • Salesforce administration
        • Own NPSP, fundraising and dev ops Salesforce feature implementation pipeline
        • Own Form Assembly and Zapier integrations with Salesforce. Monitor integrations to ensure that data is entering the system as intended
        • Own ongoing Salesforce database maintenance and cleanup
        • Develop and update flows, templates, page layouts, fields, permission sets, reports, etc across the org as needed
        • Collaborate with the Data and Evaluation Manager to ensure that Salesforce data is clean and reportable. Execute weekly data maintenance processes
      • Data Insights Product Management
        • Collaborate with Associate Director of Data and Evaluation to synthesize Sustainability Audit vision into feature development plans
        • Own technical Sustainability Audit system, questionnaire and report updates
    • Technical Systems support [20%]
      • Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting to staff and project teams
    • Other responsibilities as assigned.

    Skills and Qualifications for The Role

    • 2-4 years of experience with Salesforce database administration
    • Database administration: Is technologically savvy, experienced at administrating and iterating on database structure, and seeks to understand the why before jumping to the how. Experience with Salesforce configuration required, ideally experience managing NPSP.
    • User-focused solution design: Approaches solutions to technical and systems needs with the end user in mind
    • Project management: Independently establishes clear project goals, milestones, and procedures, and assigns appropriate roles and responsibilities to team members and vendors. Has demonstrated success in leveraging common project management processes and digital tools.
    • Ownership: Takes ownership of assigned projects, effectively manages own work and the work of vendors, demonstrates leadership skills, and works autonomously to drive the delivery of high-quality work
    • Systems thinking: Proactively identifies emerging trends and changes in contexts and needs, and develops innovative strategies to navigate them
    • Problem solving: Effectively senses and solves problems in complex initiatives, providing solutions to organizational problems through a reflective and strategic approach
    • Effective communication: Independently develops and delivers multi-mode communications that effectively resonate with diverse audiences and their unique needs
    • Salesforce Administrator and/or Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud Consultant certifications are a plus, but not required. We place a higher value on demonstrated experience, technical proficiency, and practical problem-solving skills.

    Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions

    • Must be able to remain in a stationary position, at a desk or similar, 90% of the time. Time spent in a stationary location includes operating a computer and relevant peripherals and communicating via phone.

    Travel Requirements

    • Available to travel for staff retreats 1-2 times per year (approx. 3-5 days per retreat, including travel)
    • Available to travel for annual LION member event annually (approx. 3-5 days including travel)

    90 Day Introductory Period

    This introductory period is a try-out time for the employee and the Company. During this introductory period, the Company will evaluate employees’ suitability for employment and employees can evaluate the Company as well. The purpose of the introductory period is to be intentional about setting clear goals for the employee to accomplish, prompting regular feedback and support from the employee’s manager, and providing structure for a candid conversation about whether either the employee or the manager believes there is a misalignment of the employee’s competencies with and interest in the role.
