    Job Title: Program and Policy Coordinator

    Salary Range: $45,000–$50,000 (Exempt)

    Schedule: Full time (Hybrid – 3 days in office)

    Reports to: Program & Policy Director

    About Westchester Children’s Association:

    Founded in 1914, the Westchester Children’s Association (WCA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children in Westchester County by advancing equitable policies and strengthening programs that support children and families. WCA is committed to social justice, racial equity, and ensuring that all children in Westchester can thrive.

    WCA focuses on four core issue areas: early childhood support, child poverty, youth justice, and youth well-being. We advance this work through data-informed advocacy, engagement with youth and families to elevate lived experience, and collaboration with public agencies, nonprofit partners, and community stakeholders to drive systems change.

    Responsibilities:

    Program Coordination & Project Management

    • Support the coordination and implementation of WCA’s advocacy, policy, research, and community engagement initiatives, helping ensure projects remain on schedule, aligned with organizational priorities, and responsive to evolving community needs and funding opportunities.
    • Develop and maintain project timelines, work plans, and implementation schedules.
    • Coordinate logistics for meetings, trainings, workshops, advocacy events, and public forums, including scheduling, registration, materials, travel, and consultant coordination.
    • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned projects, maintaining communication with participants, volunteers, community partners, and stakeholders.

    Community Engagement

    • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, public agencies, schools, advocacy partners, and other stakeholders.
    • Coordinate meetings and activities for assigned coalitions, workgroups, and community initiatives.
    • Support recruitment and engagement of parents, youth, volunteers, and community members in advocacy opportunities.
    • Represent WCA at meetings, trainings, conferences, and community events.

    Policy & Advocacy Support

    • Monitor state and county legislative and policy developments affecting children and families across key issue areas.
    • Assist in preparing advocacy materials, presentations, testimony, educational resources, newsletters, and other communications.
    • Coordinate logistics and support advocacy campaigns, legislative visits, coalition meetings, public hearings, and community engagement activities.
    • Support engagement with coalition partners, community organizations, and elected officials.
    • Represent WCA at advocacy and coalition meetings as assigned.

    Communications & Research Support

    • Develop and draft newsletters, blog posts, advocacy updates, action alerts, issue-area communications, and related materials (including issue briefs, fact sheets, presentations, and reports) that advance WCA’s advocacy priorities.
    • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences including community members, partners, and policymakers.
    • Collaborate with the Data and Communications team to translate data, research, and policy developments into accessible public-facing materials.
    • Coordinate dissemination of communications and outreach materials to community partners, policymakers, stakeholders, and the public.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or Associate’s degree with 2–4 years of relevant experience in nonprofit, advocacy, government, or community-based work,
    • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences including community members, partners, and policymakers.
    • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
    • Demonstrated interest in social justice, racial equity, and improving outcomes for children and families.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new tools and systems.
    • Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

    Work Environment & Travel

    This position requires travel to meetings, community events, coalition activities, and advocacy days, primarily within Westchester County and occasionally throughout New York State. Travel may increase during key advocacy and program periods; reliable transportation to off-site locations is required.
