    UPROSE Climate Justice Organizer

    Founded in 1966, UPROSE is an intergenerational, BIWOC-led, internationally recognized community organization. UPROSE works at the intersection of racial justice and climate change through community-based planning and research, policy advocacy, popular education, organizing, artistic expression, and youth leadership development.

    The role of the Climate Justice Organizer involves Community Outreach, Organizing & Base-Building.

    This is a full-time position that provides a benefits package and professional development opportunities. UPROSE is looking for someone who can work in-person full-time Monday-Friday in our Sunset Park, Brooklyn office. Salary commensurate with experience.     Key Responsibilities:

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Community Outreach, Organizing & Base-Building
    • Conduct consistent, on-the-ground outreach throughout Sunset Park, including door knocking, tabling, canvassing, and street outreach.
    • Build and maintain relationships with residents, small businesses, community leaders, and neighborhood stakeholders.
    • Recruit and engage community members to participate in campaign activities, meetings, trainings, and public actions.
    • Represent UPROSE at community events, block parties, town halls, coalition meetings, and partner gatherings.
    • Coordinate and support campaign-related events, activations, and community engagement opportunities.
    • Maintain a strong and visible neighborhood presence for the campaign.
    • Work toward measurable growth of UPROSE's volunteer and supporter base.
    • Develop and strengthen relationships with local businesses, institutions, and community-based organizations.
    • Cross departmental collaboration & mutual support (Comms / Digital Media, Creative, Just Transition, Resiliency, Infrastructure, & Development)

    Campaign Leadership & Staff Development

    • Train, mentor, and onboard new or returning organizers.
    • Accompany organizers during outreach efforts and community engagement activities.
    • Support organizers in developing community relationships and campaign leadership skills.

    Political Education & Community Learning

    • Design and facilitate learning circles, workshops, popular education efforts, and community discussions related to the Special Purpose District campaign.
    • Support the development of educational materials and messaging that make campaign goals accessible and understandable to community members.
    • Foster opportunities for resident leadership development and political education.

    Administrative & Reporting Responsibilities

    • Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, contacts, volunteer engagement, and community participation using UPROSE's data systems.
    • Provide regular updates regarding campaign progress, challenges, and opportunities.
    • Support documentation and reporting related to campaign activities and outcomes.
    • Submit weekly outreach reports and monthly campaign summaries.
    • Report directly to the Executive Director

    Qualifications:

    • 3 to 5 years of organizing experience;
    • Demonstrated commitment to Environmental Justice, Social Justice and Climate Justice issues;
    • Knowledge of issues affecting frontline communities, communities of color and low-income communities;
    • Proven experience in coordinating and facilitating meetings and working with grassroots intergenerational communities of color;
    • Experience promoting issues and policy objectives;
    • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team-setting;
    • Excellent written/oral communications skills;
    • Comfort with giving public presentations;
    • Knowledge of basic computer applications, such as Microsoft, Google, and Adobe applications;
    • Accountability and time management
    • Spanish/English bilingual proficiency preferred

    Salary is based on experience: $70,000 - 85,000
