    Evening/Overnight/Weekend Staff Job Description

    REPORTS TO: Assistant Director

    SALARY: Hourly

    SUMMARY

    The Overnight/Weekend Staff member provides direct support and supervision to residents in Dawn’s Place’s supervised residential program during overnight and weekend hours. This role ensures the safety, security, and wellbeing of residents while promoting independence, dignity, and therapeutic support. The position involves working with women who have been commercially sexually exploited, trafficked, or have experienced trauma, offering crisis management, guidance, and supportive interventions as needed.

    QUALIFICATIONS

      • Experience working with women who have been commercially sexually exploited, survivors of trauma, or in mental health or human services settings.
      • Knowledge of issues related to substance use, sexual abuse, domestic violence, and emotional or physical trauma.
      • Recovering applicants with a minimum of two years in recovery are encouraged to apply.
      • Associates or bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field preferred; equivalent life or work experience considered.
      • Ability to read, write, and understand English.
      • Must pass a criminal background check and complete all required trainings, including CPR certification, prior to or upon hire.

    HOURS

      • Shifts: 4:30pm-8:30pm (weeknights)

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Provide direct support and supervision to residents during overnight and weekend shifts.
      • Attend to residents’ individual needs, fostering self-esteem, independence, and therapeutic growth.
      • Maintain safety, security, and order in the residence.
      • Supervise in-house activities during the evening hours.
      • Intervene and resolve conflicts or issues among residents as they arise.
      • Provide first aid or coordinate appropriate treatment if necessary.
      • Supervise and document residents’ self-administration of medication.
      • Monitor resident arrivals and departures, notifying the on-call staff if someone fails to return by curfew.
      • Conduct room checks to ensure all residents are accounted for.
      • Write nightly progress notes for each resident and complete required documentation.
      • Be familiar with emergency contacts and procedures, including fire alarm activation.
      • Attend required in-service trainings.
      • Follow guidance from on-call staff in case of emergency or other problematic events.
      • Perform other duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

      • Ability to work effectively with women from diverse backgrounds.
      • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, mental health issues, and addiction.
      • Understanding of issues impacting women, including sexual abuse, domestic violence, and emotional or physical trauma.
      • Ability to interact in a supportive, therapeutic, and professional manner, while remaining firm, fair, and consistent in adherence to Dawn’s Place policies.
      • Prior experience working with commercially sexually exploited women is a plus.
      • Ability to be nonjudgmental and supportive of residents.
      • Must pass a criminal background check.
      • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality regarding residents, staff, and the program.
      • Flexibility and adaptability in dynamic or challenging situations.
      • Ability to remain calm in crises, exercise good judgment, and act professionally at all times.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

      • Staff may sleep once residents are settled but must remain awake and alert to respond immediately to emergencies or resident needs.
      • May encounter crude, vulgar, or inappropriate language or behaviors.
      • May hear or be exposed to residents’ traumatic experiences.
      • Residents may test boundaries or attempt to create staff conflict; staff must maintain professional authority.
      • Staff serve as role models at all times.
      • Vigilance and attention to detail are required to maintain safety within the residence, responding appropriately to any threat to residents or program integrity.
