    Position Summary:

    Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity-based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. We teach life skills and social-emotional learning through a youth development curriculum that includes dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness. Girls on the Run NYC hosts programs in schools and communities in the five boroughs of New York City.

    Key Responsibilities

    This is a full-time position based in New York City. Some of the key responsibilities include:

    Coach Support & Coach Training

    • Oversee the recruitment of coaches, including outreach to recruit new community volunteer coaches, pre-season screening and interviews with volunteer community coaches, and hosting check-ins and events with community volunteer coaches
    • As a member of the program team, help plan and facilitate National Coach Training and other events, including on some evenings and weekends
    • Ensure that new and returning site, coach, and participant registration information is up to date in registration system prior to each season
    • In collaboration with Program Team, respond to site, coach, and parent inquiries in a timely, professional manner

    Program Site Support & Logistics

    • Support the inventory and distribution of coach and program curriculum, materials, and supplies
    • in coordination with staff and volunteers (including deliveries across the boroughs)
    • Participate in all aspects of the sneaker ordering process
    • Conduct visits to program sites around New York City
    • Provide support to sites using paper registration, including data support and invoicing

    5K & Special Events

    • Provide support for program sites and coaches at each end of season 5K (fall and spring), including preparations leading up to the event and day-of support
    • Oversee 5K registration setup and management for running buddies and Sparkle Runners
    • Support program teams with 5K registration materials and 5K day preparation
    • Participate in, and when appropriate, coordinate pilot programs, new program delivery models, and expanded summer programming

    Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree or two or more years equivalent work experience required, preferably in youth development, public health, education or social work
    • Understanding and ability to work well in a small office setting, function as a team player on a range of projects, and also work independently to meet deadlines on assigned duties
    • Excellent project coordination, communication, collaboration, and team participation skills
    • Ability to recruit, screen, train, and motivate community-based volunteers
    • Ability to travel within the five boroughs of New York City on public transportation from March-June and October-November
    • Computer competence, including, but not limited to: database management systems, Microsoft Office (including Excel), Google Suite, and email
    • Must be available to work some hours during some weekends and evenings, including for coach events and other organizational events such as volunteer and fundraising events
    • Comfortable in a hybrid work environment, including remote work and in-person work at the GOTR NYC office

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Spanish speaker strongly preferred
    • Experience with youth development programming in New York City
    • 1 to 3 years of nonprofit experience, including experience supporting volunteers
    • Program support experience
    • Experience using Canva, Asana, and Slack, or similar project management and communications tools

    Must be willing to undergo a background check.
