    Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and working closely in collaboration with the Director of Public Programs, the Associate Director of Visual Arts Programs is a leader in shaping the vision of ArtsWestchester’s exhibition and public art initiatives. They are a critical member of the team, helping to advance ArtsWestchester’s mission and foster inclusive programs that reflect the communities we serve. They will work as a member of a small and productive team on the realization of projects with artists, corporations, public agencies, and arts institutions; lead the development of content and audiences for exhibitions and related programs; oversee ArtsWestchester’s Public Art program; and develop meaningful partnerships with community organizations. The Associate Director of Visual Arts Programs provides managerial oversight of the full-time Registrar and part-time visitor services staff members.

    Responsibilities include:

    Lead development and implementation of ArtsWestchester’s signature in-house exhibitions, including installation support.

    Lead the development of public programs which interpret exhibition content for broad audiences.

    Negotiate artwork loan fees or artist honoraria.

    Monitor and maintain budgets for specific exhibitions.

    Manage contracted consultants on related programs (curators, artists, public art manager, fabricators, etc.)

    Write interpretative material for the website and exhibitions where applicable.

    Develop relationships with local organizations (civic, residential, artistic, etc).

    Work with Director of Development and Director of Communications to develop an audience development strategy for programs.

    Oversee the development of docent training for onsite exhibitions and assist with group tours and other ArtsWestchester events.

    Manage ArtsWestchester’s Public Art Program, including representing ArtsWestchester with prospective clients/partners and oversight of relevant consultants or team members.

    Develop proposals for and collaborate on the execution of ArtsWestchester off-site curatorial partnerships.

    Develop grant proposals and provide support materials for funding requests, as needed.

    Oversight of appropriate staff and consultants/contract employees including: Public Art Project consultants, Visitor Services, and Registrar

    Provide technical support to artists on grant programs, as appropriate.

    Qualifications:

    Must embrace the mission and values of ArtsWestchester

    Master's degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Arts Management or related specialty; or equivalent related experience in exhibition and program planning and implementation.

    Extensive knowledge of fundamental exhibition concepts, practices, policies, and procedures.

    Supervisory and/or project/process management experience.

    Knowledge of current and emerging trends in museums and professional standards.

    Excellent writing and communication skills.

    Knowledge of project management principles, practices, techniques, and methodologies with the ability to plan, execute and control a project (establishing realistic estimates and reporting metrics)

    Knowledge of budget development and administration.

    Ability to assess and analyze project risks; identify solutions and alternatives, make decisions, and implement corrective actions.

    Experience working with artists, fabricators, and art installers; knowledge of art fabrication methods and processes.

    Ability to read and understand architectural plans and construction documents; familiarity with construction best practices and fluency with related vocabulary.

    Working knowledge of archival and curatorial practices.

    Fluent with Microsoft Office and Google suite.

    Physical Demands:

    While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms over the head, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, talk and hear for extended periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Employee must be able to work at a computer for extended periods of time. Employee must have good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to operate equipment and read application/form information.
