Position Overview
The Summer Camp Nurse is responsible for overseeing the health and wellness of campers and staff throughout the camp season. This role serves as the on-site primary medical professional, ensuring proper care, documentation, and communication for all health matters.
Responsibilities
Student Health & Medical Care
- Provide routine and emergency medical care to campers and staff
- Administer medications in accordance with physician instructions and camp policies
- Respond to and manage illness, injury, and medical emergencies
- Accompany campers or staff to off-site medical facilities when necessary
- Serve as the primary liaison between camp administration and families regarding medical needs
- Communicate promptly with families or designated contacts in the event of serious health concerns
Health Records & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and complete health records for all campers and staff
- Review, collect, and manage medical forms and documentation prior to and during camp
- Ensure proper storage, tracking, and dispensing of prescribed medications
- Collaborate with camp administration to ensure the timely and accurate processing of health information
- Monitor and support compliance with health and safety standards
Qualifications
- MA Licensed healthcare professional: RN, LPN, or NP
- Current CPR, First Aid, Concussion, and EpiPen certification
- Valid driver’s license
- Experience in pediatric and adult care, including emergency response
- Knowledge of community health practices
- Prior experience working with children and young adults preferred
- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills within scope of practice
- Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations
- Excellent communication skills with families, staff, and leadership
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in recordkeeping
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
