    Location

    Boulder, CO or Washington DC preferred, with possibility to work from other EDF U.S. offices or US remote. Fellow supervisor is in Boston, MA. Eligibility to work in the U.S. is required for the duration of the fellowship.

    Term

    1 year with an anticipated start date of September 2025.

    Legal & Regulatory Overview

The U.S. Legal & Regulatory team works out of the Washington, D.C., Boulder, CO offices and remotely.

    Overall Function

    The U.S. Legal & Regulatory team is searching for an Analytics Fellow to support its work to defend and expand vital climate and clean air protections. The team advances federal and state protections through rigorous technical and policy analysis, public education and outreach, litigation, and policy advocacy.

    The Analytics Fellow will assist with tracking, documenting, and disseminating ongoing developments in energy and environmental law and policy. They will work on multidisciplinary projects involving technical research and analysis on a variety of topics related to clean air, public health, climate, justice, and energy issues. Research and technical analysis will directly support the team’s defense of protective climate and clean air standards, and be used for public education, advocacy with decision-makers, and political outreach. In addition, the Fellow will work with other members of the team to identify, implement, and develop other innovative strategies and approaches.

    The Analytics Fellow will report to the Senior Manager, Clean Air Policy & Analytics.

    Key Responsibilities

    Tasks will include but are not limited to:

    • Maintain a database of executive, administrative, legislative, and judicial actions impacting the U.S. Legal & Regulatory work, and keep abreast of latest developments in climate, energy, and emission data.
    • Assist with updating EDF’s Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) Tracker to ensure timely and accurate information on IRA implementation is available.
    • Use technical, economic, and scientific data and information to help develop and support policies to reduce harmful pollution.
    • Review and analyze data, including emissions data, modeling results, scientific research studies, and economic analyses to inform EDF’s advocacy.
    • Represent EDF in coalition spaces, and work with external partners to develop and evaluate technical analyses.
    • Draft a variety of written materials including: white papers, summarizing research for a broader audience and public communications including technical regulatory comments, Congressional testimony, presentations, Op-Ed pieces, fact sheets, and blog posts.
    • Support the development of methods and formats for communicating data (quantitative and qualitative) using effective communication strategies, while working closely with internal communications staff to update external platforms.
    • Participate in advancing EDF’s organizational effectiveness and culture goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.
    • Additional relevant responsibilities as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in policy, environmental studies, economics, physical sciences, engineering, or other field relevant to EDF’s mission.
    • Demonstrated project management and quantitative skills with experience in performing rigorous analyses.
    • Experience using large datasets particularly ones focused on energy or environmental topics preferred.
    • Demonstrated self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across all cultures and backgrounds.
    • Demonstrated interest in environmental, climate, energy, and/or related issues.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to communicate effectively with researchers, policymakers, and others with a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds.
    • Proactive, attentive to detail, and organized.
    • Ability to work in a team setting and independently when projects are due.
    • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.
    • Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Ability and willingness to travel on occasion (frequency dependent on location).
