    We are seeking a strategic, detail-oriented, and values-aligned Managing Director to oversee day-to-day programming.

    Summary

    Reporting to the President, the Managing Director will provide strategic and management leadership of two tax-exempt, mission-driven organizations: Accountable.US and Accountable.NOW. The Managing Director will have a strong day-to-day leadership presence and serve as a steward of the organization’s values, supporting high performance and ensuring accountability while having an unfailing dedication to the mission of the organization. A member of the leadership team, the Managing Director will have direct oversight of department heads and will be tasked with helping the staff meet the organization’s goals, including through talent management and development.

    The ideal candidate will be thoughtful, highly adaptable, and strategic, ensuring that this is reflected in the organization’s lived values and culture. This role will provide leadership when the moment calls for the organization to be nimble and the staff needs direction to shift strategies and priorities. The Managing Director will ensure that communications to staff and stakeholders are clear, particularly when important strategic and operational updates must be conveyed.

    Responsibilities:

    • Work with the President, Chief Strategist, operations and HR to drive the implementation of the organization's strategic plans.
    • Through leadership and management of Accountable’s department heads, mobilize and align organizational resources and talent in furtherance of its mission, vision and goals.
    • Ensure that significant developments and updates, including those pertaining to strategy and operations, are communicated to the staff effectively.
    • Maintain oversight of the day-to-day operations of the organization, ensuring efficient workflows and alignment with the Accountable’s overarching goals.
    • Work with the President and the leadership team to ensure that operational decisions are data-driven and made promptly.
    • Work with the President and Operations team to ensure the organization’s financial health and compliance through budgeting and financial reporting.
    • Through effective overall staff management, cultivate a work environment that embraces collaboration, transparency, open communication, and accountability.

    Requirements and qualifications:

    • 10 + years of relevant experience in progressively responsible management roles, at least partially within nonprofit organizations.
    • Demonstrated leadership and management abilities, including team management, strategic planning, and decision-making skills.
    • Experience exercising judgement and discretion.
    • Demonstrated ability to balance competing priorities and tasks while maintaining an attention to detail.
    • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey information to diverse stakeholders, including board members, staff, donors, and external partners.
    • Strong interpersonal skills for building relationships and collaboration across teams.
    • Commitment to the mission of Accountable.US.

    Work Environment

    • This role is in a hybrid work environment, with a requirement to be in our Washington, D.C. office at least two days per week.
    • Occasional travel may be required.
