Job Title: Naloxone Mailing and Syringe Service Program Specialist

Status: Full-Time / 40 hours per week requiring flexibility / Grant funded

Compensation: $55/hour; Medical, dental, vision, and short and long-term disability insurance covered at 100% by Prevention Point Pittsburgh, access to an employee assistance program, and approximately 20.5 days of PTO and 13 agency holidays.

Organization Description: Prevention Point Pittsburgh (PPP) is a non-profit organization that seeks to improve the health and safety of individuals who use drugs through the provision of public health services. PPP is the longest running legal syringe service program and one of the largest providers of community-based naloxone distribution services in Western PA. Position Summary: The Naloxone Mailing and Syringe Service Program Specialist will divide time between PPP’s statewide Naloxone Mailing Program (NMP) and PPP’s mobile Syringe Service Program (SSP). For the NMP, the Specialist will be responsible for receiving, reviewing, and fulfilling requests for naloxone and harm reduction supplies. On the SSP side, the Specialist will be responsible for direct service provision and community outreach, along with other members of the SSP team.

Travel Requirements: This is an in-office and on site position. After 1 year of employment, the position will be reviewed to identify possible opportunities for remote work.

Reporting Relationship: The Naloxone Mailing and Syringe Service Program Specialist will report to the Naloxone Mailing Project Coordinator.

Responsibilities (NMP):

• To monitor and review NMP requests for naloxone, test strips, and other supplies.
• To accurately fulfill requests within a timely manner. To engage with NMP participants with attentiveness, care, and respect.
• To prepare supplies for the NMP on an ongoing basis, review and organize inventory of program supplies, and work with Project Coordinator to replenish supplies as needed.
• To maintain accurate documentation of program data (quantitative and qualitative), to provide summaries for planning and reporting purposes, to maintain the privacy of participant and program data, to be invested in the success and strategic outreach of the NMP.

Responsibilities (SSP):

• To be present at assigned service site locations (exact schedule to be determined in conjunction with applicant and SSP team).
• To conduct direct service provision including driving outreach vehicle to approved locations, stocking supplies, and other tasks relevant to operation of sites.
• To maintain the cleanliness and organization of service sites, outreach vehicle, and storage locations.
• To organize and handle bio-hazard waste (sharps containers) using organization safety protocols
• To manage large deliveries by working with vendors and staff to ensure efficiency in unloading procedures as well as assisting in supply ordering and inventory storage
• May be asked to help create and maintain up-to-date education materials at sites and conduct educational programming on harm reduction topics in a variety of settings
• May be asked to conduct informational tabling or other community outreach events.

• To participate in team meetings, supervision meetings, staff meetings, and partner meetings as required.
• To function as a team-member, share in other responsibilities as required, including but not limited to: providing coverage for colleagues who may be out of office, attending events, obtaining training, undertaking research, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Commitment to harm reduction philosophy and organizational mission.
• Understanding of safer substance use practices, overdose prevention, disease transmission, and general substance use topics; willingness to continue learning about harm reduction
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, attend required engagements, receive feedback, provide constructive feedback, and meet deadlines.
• Lifting 25 pounds, driving, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs are frequently necessary.
• Ability to handle confidential and protected information with discretion and in compliance with applicable laws.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; accuracy in documentation and data entry.
• Excellent interpersonal and team building, leadership, and oral and written communication skills.
• Willingness to work independently and creatively solve problems as they arise
• Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, email, and other core applications
• Must have a valid and unrestricted PA drivers license for duration of employment and be insurable under agency’s policy (disqualifications generally include DUI/DWI or other reckless driving convictions in the last five years or more than two at-fault accidents in the last three years)
• Must complete all required training and certifications within required time periods.
• Provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
