Kounkuey Design Initiative (KDI) is a team of diverse urbanists—landscape architects, urban planners, designers, and community organizers—united by our shared commitment to building equity, justice, and resilience in communities through design.

    Position:

KDI is currently seeking a graphic designer to add to our growing team in Los Angeles, CA. This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated and creative self-starter to work directly with under-resourced communities throughout Southern California on community-driven development.

This is an in-person position in our Los Angeles office, and there may be opportunities to accompany staff to projects throughout Los Angeles, the Eastern Coachella Valley, and other areas in California.

    Job Description:

The Graphic Designer will support firm leadership and project managers on graphic design projects across a range of initiatives crucial to the organization’s operations and growth, including:

    • Document layouts (proposals, publications, presentations, and project reports)
    • Project design (project branding, graphic materials for participatory design processes, signage/wayfinding)
    • Web design for project landing pages, surveys, etc.
    • Marketing objectives (supporting award submissions, newsletters, presentations for lectures and conferences, website updates, social media, fundraisers, and portfolios)
    • Workshop facilitation for students and community engagement events that involve co-designing processes

    Qualifications:

    • Undergraduate coursework in graphic design
    • Strong commitment to social justice
    • Excellent graphic and communication skills
    • Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
    • Strong or working knowledge of website design (Squarespace, etc.)
    • Familiarity with (or interest in) landscape architecture and/or urban planning
