ABOUT BOSTON IMPACT INITIATIVE (BII)
Boston Impact Initiative (BII) is a nonprofit impact investment fund founded in 2013 working to build a regenerative and equitable economy. We invest integrated capital—equity, debt and grants—in social enterprises and community-owned and controlled real estate to build wealth and asset-building opportunities, especially in diverse communities.
As a new Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), we currently manage two distinct funds:
BII also offers impact investing education and training. Through our Advancing Regenerative Capital (ARC) Fellowship, we have trained 70 fund managers from 30 organizations to launch community-based impact funds focused on expanding shared ownership and generational wealth in communities systematically excluded from economic opportunity. To date, 22 funds have launched that have deployed over $12M to diverse small businesses across the U.S.
BII is growing to 15 employees in 2025, with a net $3.5M annual operating budget. As we expand our investing and field-building work, we seek a strategic and entrepreneurial Managing Director of BII’s Impact Capital Lab to spearhead field-building, innovation and education to advance BII’s vision of a future where every community has the resources and power to create shared prosperity.
ABOUT THE IMPACT CAPITAL LAB AT BII
The Impact Capital Lab is a bold, field-building initiative of Boston Impact Initiative (BII). The Lab is where innovation meets education—serving as a launchpad for the next generation of impact fund managers, a hub for funder learning, a center for advisory services to impact capital deployers, and a voice for policy and advocacy in the impact investing field.
BII invests integrated capital—equity, debt and grants—in social enterprises and community-owned and controlled real estate to build wealth and asset-building opportunities, especially in diverse communities. The Lab aims to build the infrastructure and leadership our economy needs to move from extractive to regenerative investing practices. Through its programs, the Lab expands who gets to steward capital—and how that capital shows up and moves in community.
