    USGBC-CA Workforce Development Manager

    The U.S. Green Building Council California (USGBC-CA) is seeking a dynamic and experienced program manager to lead and expand its workforce development initiatives. This individual will oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of local and statewide workforce development programs. The Workforce Development Manager will work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including community-based organizations, educational institutions, government agencies, and industry partners, to create and deliver impactful training and career pathway programs. This position is slated to begin in September 2025 and will be an integral part of our USGBC-CA team, reporting to our Director, Workforce Development.

    Ideal Candidate

    The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing, growing, and delivering innovative programs that equip individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the green economy. They will be a strategic thinker with a proven ability to build and maintain strong partnerships and manage program logistics from conception to completion. This position will lead USGBC-CA’s related work in the San Diego region as well as support statewide Workforce Development, playing a key role in building a diverse talent pipeline to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in the green building and sustainability sectors statewide. The ideal candidate is an experienced people leader with a passion for uplifting others, sharing knowledge collaboratively, and managing high-performing teams.

    Key Responsibilities and Job Duties

    Program Development and Management:

    • Lead the development and implementation of new workforce development initiatives.
    • Manage and grow existing workforce development programs, such as the Green Building Corps, Career Fairs and Networking Events, Career Coaching, Regional Workforce Alliance efforts, and various related professional certificate programs.
    • Develop and manage program budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure successful execution and achievement of program goals.
    • Oversee all aspects of program delivery, including content development, instructor recruitment and training, participant recruitment and support, and logistics.
    • Establish and implement program evaluation metrics to track progress, measure impact, and ensure continuous improvement.
    • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with a wide array of stakeholders, including community colleges, vocational schools, workforce investment boards, community-based organizations, industry associations, and employers.
    • Represent USGBC-CA's workforce development initiatives (and others) in San Diego County, representing the organization at relevant meetings, conferences, and events.
    • Collaborate with the USGBC-CA San Diego Regional Leadership Advisory Board to align workforce development and training efforts with local priorities.
    • Work to ensure that all workforce development programs are inclusive and accessible to individuals from diverse backgrounds, with a focus on serving underrepresented communities.
    • Communicate and engage diverse audiences, including K-12 educators and students, post-secondary institutions, career professionals, clients, and partners.
    • Serve as a source of guidance and inspiration as an effective People Manager by setting and clearly communicating performance expectations, hosting regular 1:1s with direct reports, providing and receiving feedback, and coaching and mentoring.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Environmental Science, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Education, Urban Planning) or equivalent work experience.
    • A minimum of 5 years of experience in program management, preferably in career development, workforce development, green jobs training, or a related field.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of and passion for sustainability, green building and construction principles, and environmental justice.
    • Proven ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
    • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in grant or technical writing and public speaking.
    • Experience with budget management and financial reporting.
    • Familiarity with the San Diego County non-profit, K-12, higher education, and workforce development landscape is highly desirable.
    • LEED Green Associate or other relevant professional credential is a plus.
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) abilities are a strong asset.
    • Requirement for a cleared live-scan upon hire

    TIME COMMITMENT & COMPENSATION:

    This is a full-time, hybrid position. Location: San Diego County with occasional travel required throughout the region and to the USBGC-CA offices in Los Angeles. The annual salary range is $75,000-$90,000.
