Nonprofit Finance Director — Fractional/Contractor.
Position Summary
The Finance Director provides financial leadership and oversight for the organization, working in close partnership with the Executive Director and the organization's outsourced bookkeeping firm. This role does not perform day-to-day bookkeeping — that function is handled by our bookkeeping firm — but is responsible for overseeing that firm's work, managing budgeting and cash flow, and ensuring the organization's overall fiscal health and compliance. The Finance Director serves as the organization's senior financial voice to the Board, funders, and auditors.

Plan A is a nonprofit organization that operates free clinics in rural Mississippi and Georgia.
Key Responsibilities
Oversight of Bookkeeping Firm
- Serve as primary point of contact and oversight for the contracted bookkeeping firm
- Review monthly financial statements, reconciliations, and reports prepared by the bookkeeping firm for accuracy and completeness
- Flag discrepancies, unusual transactions, or process gaps for follow-up
- Ensure appropriate separation of duties and internal controls are maintained between bookkeeping, purchasing, and program operations
Budget & Cash Flow Management
- Develop and manage the annual organizational budget in partnership with the Executive Director and program leads
- Monitor cash flow, including grant/contract drawdowns and reserve levels
- Provide quarterly budget-vs-actual reporting to the Executive Director and Board
Fiscal Strategy & Compliance
- Partner with the Executive Director to ensure the organization's fiscal performance supports its strategic and programmatic goals
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial regulations, grant/funder requirements, and applicable state and federal reporting
- Support the annual audit process, including liaising with external auditors
- Present financial reports and analysis to the Board of Directors quarterly
Organizational Leadership
- Serve as a senior leadership team member, providing financial input into strategic decisions
- Maintain the organization's financial policies and procedures, updating as needed for compliance and best practice
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of financial management experience in a nonprofit or healthcare setting
- Experience overseeing outsourced accounting/bookkeeping functions
- Strong understanding of nonprofit budgeting, grant financial management, and cash flow planning
- Comfortable working with a lean internal team
- Excellent communication skills, including presenting financial information to non-financial audiences (Board, ED, program staff)
Time Commitment
This role is scoped for an average of approximately 8-15 hours monthly depending on the season and may be structured as part-time, fractional, or contract depending on candidate fit and organizational need.
