    About the Organization:

    The Southeast Asian Community Alliance (SEACA) is a community-based organization founded in 2002 whose mission is to develop youth leaders to build power in refugee, immigrant, and low-income communities. Our work focuses on affordable housing, fighting displacement, and creating vibrant neighborhoods of opportunity. We do this through youth and community organizing, policy advocacy, and coalition-building. SEACA works primarily with Southeast Asian as well as Chinese, Latine, and African American youth in the Chinatown, Solano Canyon and Lincoln Heights neighborhoods of Los Angeles.

    Position Summary:

    The Youth Organizer is a full-time, non-exempt position that reports to SEACA’s Deputy Director. The Youth Organizer is responsible for managing the Youth Organizers (YO) Program, an after school leadership and organizer training program to build the capacity of high-school youth to implement SEACA’s policy and community organizing campaigns. The Youth Organizer will also work to expand SEACA's membership base, support other youth programs, and work in collaboration with our other programs to build campaigns and win for our communities. The ideal candidate is creative, flexible, able to take initiative, and make strategic decisions in a dynamic campaign environment. Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team, in a multi-cultural, multi-generational environment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Oversee all aspects of the Youth Organizers Program, including aligning program goals with campaign and education activities, maintaining relationships with youth members, tracking and reporting progress. The Youth Organizer will also provide support to the Youth Leadership Program
    • Collaborate across the organization to advance SEACA’s mission and vision, community organizing, and policy campaigns goals
    • Work with staff to train and build skills of youth members in meeting facilitation, community outreach, and organizing skills in order to become leaders in the community
    • Develop and implement outreach, recruitment, and retention plans to maintain and expand SEACA’s youth membership base
    • Create educational and advocacy materials for youth, adults and seniors and coordinate translation of materials
    • Build and maintain relationships with youth groups, academic institutions, allied organizations, and other community partners
    • Document and evaluate program activities
    • Represent SEACA in local and regional collaborations and with community allies, policymakers, and organizational stakeholders on issues impacting SEACA members
    • Develop communication strategies, including social media, to support organizing campaigns and fundraising efforts
    • Provide program, administrative, and service support as necessary and contribute to overall SEACA mission and activities

    Required Qualifications:

    • At least 2 years of direct community or labor organizing experience
    • Demonstrated commitment to racial, economic, and environmental justice, equity, and power building
    • Experience in leadership development, coalition building, and/or campaign management
    • Strong ability to connect and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds in pursuit of a common goal. This includes the ability to lead workshops, present in front of small and large groups, produce materials, and connect one-on-one with youth members
    • Ability to manage projects and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Ability to think critically and manage conflict
    • Ability to quickly incorporate feedback and direction from your supervisor
    • Ability to work after hours and weekends when necessary
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, Google applications, and basic database management
    • Proficiency with social media platforms, content development and digital communication applications
    • Must be located in Los Angeles County and able to work productively both in-office and remotely

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of housing policy, economic policy, environmental policy and urban planning
    • Experience with popular education models and creatively engaging youth and community on complex campaign issues
    • Understanding of issues facing low-income immigrant and refugee communities in Chinatown and Northeast Los Angeles
    • Fluency in Cantonese, Vietnamese, Toisan, or Spanish
