Under supervision, an incumbent of this class organizes and implements various programs and activities to meet the needs of youth. This involves the establishment of effective relations with youths, their families, other City departments, Board of Education, other public and private agencies, and volunteer mentors.
Supervision is not a responsibility of this class although incumbents function in a lead capacity
over hourly staff.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only)
Work under Program Director and alongside other staff to plan, organize, implement and
evaluate assigned intergenerational programs and activities;
Maintains records and statistics and compiles material needed to evaluate the
effectiveness of programs and services;
Develops jobs in the public and private sectors, including summer employment programs;
Conducts, interviews, makes evaluations, recommendations and referrals;
Prepares and submits reports as directed;
Conducts community outreach in order to seek out hard to reach youth in the schools, in
their homes or other informal situations;
Provides counseling, advice and referrals to youth;
Develops referral resources and contacts agencies in public and private and groups
providing services responsive to the needs and problems of youth;
Orders supplies;
Plans, arranges and chaperones field trips;
Plans and conducts community meetings on various topics of interest to youth;
Performs related work required in the implementation of programs and services.
