To assist us in meeting our mission, Project Bread – The Walk for Hunger is seeking a Child Nutrition Outreach Senior Coordinator to join our team.

At Project Bread, we have a deep commitment to creating positive social change and recognize that hunger and racism are inextricably linked. We work in a fast-paced environment that values learning, innovation, and diverse perspectives. Knowing its centrality to our work, Project Bread is committed to equity and inclusion. We aspire to build a diverse team, including groups that are traditionally underrepresented among our sector leadership. We strongly encourage people of all backgrounds to apply.

Supervisor: Assistant Director of Child Nutrition

    Starting Salary Range: $65,000-$68,000

The Role: In partnership with the Assistant Director of Child Nutrition, the Senior Outreach Coordinator plays a critical role in improving children’s access to quality school and summer meals in Eastern Massachusetts. By partnering with schools and communities, this role helps expand participation in School Breakfast Program and Summer Eats, Massachusetts’ summer food service program for children and teens ages 0-18.

This is a relationship-driven, impact-focused role ideal for someone who enjoys working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, providing hands-on support, and translating best practices into action. The successful candidate for this role will possess excellent organizational, communications, and relationship-building skills.

    Primary Responsibilities:

School Breakfast Program Outreach & Support

    • Provide technical assistance and customized support to school district administrators and food service directors to strengthen and expand School Breakfast Program participation.
    • Foster and maintain strong working relationships with superintendents, principals, school nutrition directors, school committee members, teachers, local community networks and other stakeholders.
    • Work with stakeholders across Massachusetts to implement evidence-based strategies for expanding student participation, adoption of alternative breakfast models and providing quality breakfast while following USDA nutritional guidelines.

Summer Eats Program Outreach & Support

    • Work with local community and school district leaders and stakeholders, community-based organizations and community networks to assess the need for Summer Eats expansion in targeted communities and creation of new Summer Eats programs.
    • Provide technical assistance, resources, and support to new and existing Summer Eats program operators.
    • Assist and lead planning and execution of Summer Eats events with local communities, funders, and other stakeholders.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of outreach strategies to increase participation at all Summer Eats sites.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Assist in the implementation of Project Bread’s School Breakfast and Summer Eats Grant Programs.
    • Manage or collaborate with other team members on special projects assigned by Director or Assistant Director of Child Nutrition.
    • Maintain accurate record-keeping systems to support reporting and communication of activities, including weekly, monthly, and annual reporting.

    Organizational Responsibilities:

    • Support the annual Walk for Hunger, including working as event staff the weekend of the Walk (first weekend in May), and attending pre-Walk events as assigned.
    • Participate in organization-wide events and meetings.
    • Act to promote, sustain, and grow Project Bread’s positive, productive, and inclusive working environment.

    Qualifications:

There are innumerable ways to learn, grow and excel professionally. We know people gain skills through a variety of professional, personal, educational, and volunteer experiences. Project Bread recognizes this when we review applications and take a broad look at the experience of each applicant. We want to get to know you and the unique strengths you will bring to the work. This said, we are most likely to be interested in your candidacy if you can demonstrate most of the qualifications and experiences listed below.

    Priority Competencies:

    • Stakeholder Engagement: Experience in building strong, collaborative relationships and partnerships with external stakeholders and maintaining those relationships over time.
    • Project Management & Organization: Ability to both think broadly with big picture goals in mind and pay close attention to incremental details and processes.
    • Program Implementation: Experience translating policy, guidelines, and best practices into practical, on-the-ground implementation.

    Additional Qualifications and Experience:

    • 2+ years prior relevant professional experience in nonprofit or community-based environments
    • Familiarity with school food services and/or other child nutrition programs
    • Ability to be a self-starter who is comfortable jumping into many different situations and settings, working independently and as part of a team.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with a range of audiences.
    • Reliable access to a car; travel within Massachusetts is required to visit and transport materials to schools and Summer Eats sites not accessible by public transportation.
    • Personal commitment to solving hunger in Massachusetts.
