    New Sanctuary Movement is Hiring an Accompaniment Organizer

    New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia (NSM) is an interfaith, multicultural immigrant justice organization working to build power, develop leadership, accompany families facing deportation and fight grassroots campaigns in order to change the balance of power and create a more welcoming and just city and country.     We are hiring a full time Accompaniment Organizer to support families facing issues around immigration, detention and deportation.

    To excel in this position, applicants should be familiar with issues the immigrant community faces, have experience organizing volunteers, be an adaptive team player, and familiar with movements for justice for immigrant communities both documented and undocumented. They should be good at working with people one on one, be responsive to move into quick action with last minute support requests from impacted folks, be willing to learn new tools and practices to support people in high stress situations and have clear practices for self centering in order to facilitate and navigate appropriately for self and impacted folks.

    Responsibilities Include:

    • Targeted case assessment, support and resource coordination
    • Provide accompaniment to courts, ICE check ins and other needs
    • Coordinate, manage and mobilize volunteers to accompaniment related issues
    • Organize public campaigns to free loved ones when needed
    • Attend meetings to represent NSM in local and National coalitions around anti-deportation strategies
    • Collaborate and coordinate with other Accompaniment Organizers around case work, organizing opportunities and resources
    • Lead logistics around rapid response around detention and deportation
    • Coordinate case related visits with legislators when necessary
    • Lead and facilitate community meetings and or trainings for volunteers
    • Facilitate bond payments

    Qualifications:

    • Bilingual in English - Spanish (Portuguese and Creole languages are a plus)
    • At least 3 years of experience in community organizing, which includes recruiting new members, building and facilitating groups, developing leaders, working in coalition with other groups, planning campaign strategy and direct action
    • Understanding of grassroots campaign work, building community power and campaign escalation
    • Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to build and maintain relationships with community members and clergy of different ethnicities, faiths, educational levels, and a range of ages
    • Strong written and verbal communication. Readiness to work in multilingual spaces with a range of digital literacy levels
    • Demonstrated ability to manage and respond appropriately to high stress casework
    • Experience in facilitation, experience in popular education a plus
    • Understanding of the language and life of faith, openness to a variety of religious experiences and engaged in one’s own faith journey
    • Passionate about immigrant justice and a commitment to building movements and work environments that counter racism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia and sexism
    • Strong problem solving skills and able to move quickly and under pressure
    • Highly motivated and independent worker
    • Desire to learn, grow and be challenged
    • Ability to work as part of a close-knit team
    • Flexible hours - significant evenings and weekends
    • Experience working in multi-racial and multi-lingual spaces

    A Plus:

    • Bi-cultural and/or a member of the immigrant community
    • Active member of faith community

    Compensación

    Bennefits: health insurance, 4 weeks paid vacation, paid monthly spiritual days, holidays, sick days, and 3 months sabbatical after 5 years.
