    About The Prospect Hill Foundation:

    The Prospect Hill Foundation is a private family foundation established in New York in 1959 by Elizabeth G. Beinecke and William S. Beinecke, the late President and Chairman of the Sperry and Hutchinson Company. The mission of The Prospect Hill Foundation is to advance the human experience while ensuring the well-being of the earth. The Foundation has a three-fold grantmaking framework: program grants, sponsored grants, and matching gifts.

    About the Position:

    The Prospect Hill Foundation is seeking an undergraduate intern (preferably a rising junior or senior) to further our mission by providing administrative and operations support to our staff as well as engaging in communications, research, and analysis related to our grantmaking. It is an ideal position for a student with a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in the nonprofit or philanthropy sector and provides a unique opportunity to learn more about the inner workings of philanthropy. Leadership on special projects is also possible depending on the intern’s skills and interests. This New York City-based, in-office, internship runs from September to December and requires a commitment of 10-15 hours per week (the weekly schedule and start and end dates are flexible). Interns will be compensated $20/hr.

    Job Description

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Provide administrative support for the Executive Director, Director of Finance & Operations, and the Grants Administrator
    • Create most of PHF’s Instagram posts and graphics
    • Assist with administrative tasks related to our Nuclear Disarmament and Youth Program Committees
    • Website, database, newsletter, and social media maintenance
    • Reading and editing all incoming grant applications
    • Upkeep of our Giving Data grants management system
    • A variety of special projects and assignments
    • Assorted administrative tasks, including creating material for board books, assisting in event planning, managing correspondence, assisting with annual reports, etc.
    • Research philanthropy and nonprofit management-related topics
    • Attending in-person and online seminars on philanthropic and nonprofit sector topics
    • Assisting with the PHF audit and other finance-related tasks
    • Schedule and coordinate meetings and events with Foundation staff and board members
    • Represent the foundation and attend events on behalf of PHF staff
    • Various professional development opportunities

    Interns will learn/develop

    • Knowledge of how family foundations operate
    • Knowledge of grassroots youth-centered organizations
    • Knowledge of the Nuclear Disarmament and Nonproliferation community
    • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting and auditing
    • Knowledge of the grantmaking process
    • Experience with Giving Data and Sage
    • Experience with Instagram
    • Experience with Squarespace

    Qualifications

    Extremely detail-oriented; self-directed and takes initiative; highly organized and systematic; able to work in a fast-paced environment; flexible; interested in a future career in philanthropy or the nonprofit sector; low tolerance for error; knowledge of Square Space, Canva, and Instagram; knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft Office; event planning experience is a plus.
