Winner — Community Development, International Volunteering & Sustainable Impact Excellence Award 2026

    Type: Internship / volunteer placement

Location: Madale Village and communities, schools, and institutions around Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

    Duration: Flexible, year-round · 6–8 hrs/day, Monday–Friday

Ideal for: law, human rights, political science, social work, international development, gender studies

Skills: advocacy, legal awareness, documentation, child protection, campaigns

    About the role

Join an award-winning program defending rights where the need is urgent. Embedded in a team of Tanzanian lawyers, advocates and community members — alongside fellow international interns — you'll do frontline human rights work across gender equality, child protection and social inclusion. This is not observation: you'll be part of the team.

    What you'll do

    • Gender equality & women's rights: community education, legal-awareness campaigns, survivor support and policy advocacy
    • Child protection & children's rights: with local NGOs in a consortium supported by UNICEF, Save the Children and the Ministry of Community Development, Gender & Children
    • Run advocacy activities in communities and schools, and contribute to seminars and forums
    • Network with local and international rights organizations and support visibility (50,000+ Facebook followers)
    • Carry out field documentation, research, planning and reporting
    • Optional focus areas: sexual & reproductive rights, disability rights, legal research, or thesis/academic research

    What you'll gain

    • Frontline, rights-based fieldwork experience in a developing-country context
    • A network of Tanzanian legal professionals, NGO practitioners and advocates
    • A portfolio (and optional thesis) suited to law, social work, development, gender studies or public health
    • Erasmus+ eligibility, with full support for your learning agreement
    • A certificate and reference letter on completion
