Digital Marketing & Media Programme in Tanzania — Art in Tanzania
What is it? The Digital Marketing & Media Programme places international students and volunteers in live digital marketing and media work at Art in Tanzania — managing real channels, producing creative media, and running campaigns that promote community development. Work spans social media, web and blog content, film and creative media, journalism, advocacy campaigns, and training. It is run by Art in Tanzania (AIT), a community-development NGO founded in 1996.
Where? Around Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, within AIT's working media department.
How long? Flexible — the programme runs continuously year-round, with duration adjustable to your academic schedule and goals.
Working hours? 6–8 hours per day, Monday to Friday.

What does the Digital Marketing & Media Programme involve?
Your placement is tailored to your background and skills, and the programme spans a wide, creative range of disciplines:
- Social media management — running and growing AIT's social media presence, including a Facebook audience of over 50,000 followers — creating posts, scheduling, analysing performance, and developing strategies to reach universities and the private sector.
- Web and blog content — writing, editing, and publishing content for AIT's website and blog, covering community programmes, participant stories, safaris and tours, and development themes, with SEO awareness and a clear voice.
- Film, arts, and creative media — producing video content, short films, and arts-based media using innovative African creative tools — is an immersive, hands-on experience different from Western media environments.
- Journalism and creative writing — reporting on community activities, programme outcomes, and field experiences through journalistic writing and storytelling.
- Advocacy and visibility campaigns — developing and executing digital campaigns that highlight community programmes, raise awareness of development issues, and grow reach among prospective participants, partner universities, and corporate stakeholders.
- Orientation, training, and academic tutoring — contributing to in-country orientation and training for incoming participants, and supporting academic tutoring.
How does the placement work?
Academic-level team leaders supervise your daily work, and a weekly planning and reporting system keeps your placement structured, purposeful, and aligned with your study programme. The outcome is concrete: hands-on experience applying digital marketing and media skills in a developing-country context — where creativity, adaptability, and resourcefulness are non-negotiable — plus a genuine understanding of the opportunities in one of Africa's most dynamic economies. Digital marketing, communications, journalism, film, graphic design, media studies, and public relations are all excellent fits.

Art in Tanzania (AIT) has placed approximately 250 participants annually in hands-on community programmes across Tanzania since 1996. Its Digital Marketing & Media Department sits at the centre of how AIT communicates its mission to universities, private-sector partners, communities, and the public.
