    About the organization

    NGO Committee on the Status of Women, NY (or NGO CSW/NY) is a convener of global civil society for the annual United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and global gender equality advocacy. Each year, the annual CSW session takes place for two weeks in March at the UN headquarters in New York.

    Founded in 1972, we are a coalition of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations, and individuals concerned with gender equality and the rights and empowerment of women and girls. NGO CSW/NY's main project is organizing the annual NGO CSW Forum in order to bridge the gap between global civil society and grassroots organizations, and the official UN Commission on the Status of Women. We are a volunteer-based, non-profit (501(c)3) organization funded largely by individual contributions and foundation grants. To learn more about our work, please visit https://ngocsw.org/.

    The NGO CSW/NY team is looking for a Communications Intern to help develop and facilitate a platform for the voices and leadership of feminists and women’s rights organizations globally. The intern would have an essential role in creating branding for and supporting the development of the NGO CSW71 Forum platform, one of the largest civil society gatherings at the United Nations. Interns will also have the opportunity to network and connect with global activists, organizations, and those within the UN system during the CSW and throughout the Committees year-round programming.

    The NGO CSW Forum is organized by and for global civil society, non-governmental organizations, and feminists to connect them with the official United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UN CSW) process. With over 750 events, the NGO CSW Forum informs, engages, and inspires grassroots efforts and gender equality advocacy around the world. While the NGO CSW Forum runs parallel to and complements the UN CSW, it is a separate process with separate organizers.

    This 9 month internship requires interns to work 3 days a week for a minimum of 10-15 hours.

    Intern tasks and projects include:

    • Creating content for social media and other comms platforms and/or campaigns;
    • Help develop, plan, and implement campaigns for UN and CSW advocacy training;
    • Assist with developing the content of the NGO CSW71 Forum virtual platform and trainings, as well as a communications plan for the NGO CSW71 Forum;
    • Assisting with the communications for the Youth Leaders & Young Professionals program;
    • Taking a leadership role with the Youth Leaders & Young Professionals (YLYPs) program;
    • Supporting the Executive Committee through various subcommittee activities;
    • Working on our Cities for CEDAW campaign.

    Requirements:

    • Strong passion for gender equality and advancing women’s and girls’ movements.
    • Skilled in social media platforms and developing effective communication strategies.
    • Graphic design and photography skills; web design experience a plus.
    • Experience in NGO communications preferred; UN experience or interest in human rights is a plus.
    • Clear and effective communicator with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences.
    • Skilled in audience research, messaging strategy implementation, and intercultural communication.
    • Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Canva Pro; familiarity with French and/or Spanish highly valued.
    • Excellent customer service and professionalism in diverse environments.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks efficiently.
    • Background in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Design, or related fields preferred.
    • Eligible to work in the U.S.; able to commute to New York City at least two days a week.
    • Must be able to commit to a full-time schedule during the two weeks (Mon-Fri) of the NGO CSW71 Forum, March 8-19, 2027.

    We are a small team and we are looking for individuals who can work collaboratively, communicatively, and transparently. If you are a passionate and skilled communicator eager to refine your ability to capture and convey a brand's voice across diverse platforms, we would love to work with you.
