Cultural Mediation Internship

We are looking for interns interested in supporting migration-related initiatives and making a concrete contribution to our efforts in fostering social inclusion, intercultural dialogue, and supporting young people from vulnerable backgrounds.

The internship takes place within first- and second-reception facilities for young unaccompanied migrants and refugees, managed by specialized organizations partnered with NEXO Sicilia in Agrigento, Sicily. Interns will support community-based activities, daily life assistance, educational initiatives, and intercultural exchange projects aimed at fostering inclusion, autonomy, and well-being.

Your role

• Support the reception and daily integration of young unaccompanied migrants and refugees within first- and second-reception facilities
• Help create welcoming, safe, and supportive environments where young people can feel included, heard, and encouraged in their personal development
• Assist young participants in navigating educational opportunities, local services, and community resources
• Support educational, recreational, cultural, and social activities aimed at fostering autonomy, well-being, participation, and social inclusion
• Encourage positive group dynamics, intercultural exchange, and meaningful connections between young people from different cultural backgrounds
• Participate in workshops, community initiatives, and activities promoting self-expression, creativity, and personal growth
• Collaborate with educators, social workers, cultural mediators, and other professionals involved in youth support and inclusion projects
• Assist with the organization and logistics of activities, workshops, and daily community life within the facilities
• Contribute to the preparation of materials, reports, and documentation related to educational and social activities
• Support monitoring and evaluation activities connected to youth engagement and community initiatives

Apply if this is you:

• You are currently studying or have a background in Social Work, International Relations, Political Science, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Cultural Mediation, Social Sciences, or related fields
• You are interested in youth support, migration, intercultural dialogue, and social inclusion, and are motivated to help create supportive and empowering environments for young people from different cultural backgrounds
• You enjoy working with youth, building meaningful human connections, and organizing educational, cultural, recreational, or community-based activities and workshops
• You are proactive, adaptable, communicative, and comfortable working in multicultural and dynamic environments
• You have a good command of English (minimum B1 level); French and/or Italian are appreciated

To ensure a smooth and successful internship, all our interns have access to the following resources:

• Shared accommodation in fully furnished apartments (utilities included)
• Italian language classes (beginner and intermediate levels)
• Administrative support throughout the internship
• Participation in cultural activities and events

Our Requirements:

• You are eligible for the Erasmus+ program or a similar international mobility program, which typically provide you with financial support
• You are available to spend at least 4 months in Agrigento
• You are able to cover possible short-distance commuting expenses related to the internship
