Acerca de

The National Rehabilitation Association (NRA) is a member organization that promotes ethical and state of the art practice in rehabilitation with the goal of the personal and economic independence of persons with disabilities.

Not long after Congress passed the National Rehabilitation Act of 1920, the National Rehabilitation Association (NRA) began its commitment to persons with disabilities. As the oldest and strongest advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities, our mission is to provide advocacy, awareness and career advancement for professionals in the fields of rehabilitation.

Our members include rehabilitation counselors, physical, speech and occupational therapists, job trainers, consultants, independent living instructors, students in rehabilitation programs, and other professionals involved in the advocacy of programs and services for people with disabilities.

Seven core values provide the foundation for our services and programs:

  1. We value all people.

  2. We are passionate in our belief in the economic and personal independence of persons with disabilities.

  3. We are committed to advancing the profession of rehabilitation as one with ethical and enlightened practices.

  4. Our strength lies in the diversity of our members and their work in the full range of rehabilitation fields the association represents.

  5. We take extraordinary pride in what people with disabilities accomplish every day.

  6. Our relationships with each other and the people we serve are based on trust, transparency, and integrity.

  7. We believe in the importance of lifelong learning for professional and personal enrichment.

In keeping with this commitment, the NRA has contributed and supported legislation such as the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and subsequent reauthorizations, WIA, and the ADA. The association's prominence and longevity is recognized by our nation's leaders and gives our members a vital role in shaping rehabilitation policy.
