Machine Literate

Machine Literate is an AI literacy nonprofit based in New York. Our mission is to make AI education free and accessible to students in grades 5–12, with no coding experience needed. We help students understand how AI works, think critically about its answers, and learn to use it responsibly.

We are developing a full AI literacy curriculum and an interactive website where students can learn at their own pace.

We want the lessons to feel like Brilliant.org, Duolingo, or Code.org, with short, interactive steps where students try things themselves and get feedback as they go. Through hands-on activities and projects, students will explore how AI works, make useful things with it, and learn to check its answers and recognize its limitations.

Accessibility is part of how we design the curriculum and website. We want students with different learning needs to be able to follow the lessons and participate.

We are looking for adult volunteers with experience in software development, design, and education to help build the curriculum and website. Our current opportunities are remote, unpaid, and open to adults 18+, with flexible scope.
