CPRE Kent is a highly-skilled and enthusiastic team of volunteers and professional staff, committed to promoting a love of the Kent countryside and protecting it from the many threats it faces, from inappropriate development, climate change and the collapse of biodiversity.
We make representations on draft local plans, planning applications and many other relevant consultations by public bodies which may affect the Kent countryside. Representatives of CPRE Kent attend and speak at the public examination of local plans and at planning appeals and inquiries, frequently working with other organisations and local groups, giving a voice to those most affected by proposed developments. Where necessary, CPRE Kent is willing to challenge planning decisions through the courts and has twice appeared in the Supreme Court in recent years.
We also get out into the countryside to work with others to help improve it – as currently with the Hedgerow Heroes project
The Charity
CPRE Kent is a registered charity, constituted as a company limited by guarantee. It forms part of the CPRE Network, which comprises the national charity and approximately 40 branches, most of which, like CPRE Kent, are county-based and all of which are independent charities. CPRE Kent has a board of currently 10 trustees and a staff of five, led by the Branch Director, who work from the charity’s office in Charing. The staff are led by a Director with two professional planners who previously worked for local authorities in Kent, an office manager and a communications lead.
