NAMI Southwest CT is an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. We are a grassroots, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing support, education and advocacy for people in the southwestern portion of CT who are impacted by mental health conditions.
Although 1 in 5 Americans is affected by mental health conditions, many don't seek help or treatment due to the stigma surrounding mental illness. Stigma is toxic because it creates an environment of shame, fear and silence. We strive to #CureStigma by raising awareness of mental health conditions and increasing understanding and compassion.
Our critical programs and services are delivered by volunteers with lived experience - we've "been there" and know how tiring and lonely it can be to navigate these situations. Our free programs include:
- support groups
- NAMI signature evidence-based classes
- speaker events
- book club
- advocacy opportunities
