Reach Out and Read is a national nonprofit organization that gives young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together. Here in RI, the program is now in 73 health care locations, distributing 83,000 books and reaching over 41,000 children and families every year. It is an evidence-based, cost-efficient, broad reaching prevention that impacts both the educational and social-emotional wellbeing of thousands of children before they start school—and when we know brain development is at its peak.
