Acerca de

Founded in 1967, Clausen House is a highly regarded 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides innovative programs and services for adults with developmental disabilities in Oakland and the surrounding East San Francisco Bay area.

Its mission is to create opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities to gain competency, develop relationships and join the community with increasing command over their own lives. At Clausen House, the core belief is that every human being is endowed with unique potential that is theirs to develop. It encourages its clients to make the most of their gifts and abilities, live up to their individual responsibilities, and become integrated into the community at large. Programs include residential group living, independent and supported living facilities and services, supported employment, adult education and social recreation.

As a pioneer in supporting people with developmental disabilities, Clausen House is proud to have helped change public beliefs and perceptions about men and women with developmental disabilities. They give back to the community as good neighbors, employees, and volunteers, and are an asset to the community rather than a "needy" population.
