Grow Amsterdam NY

Grow Amsterdam NY Inc., a charitable 501(c)(3) organization, was formed in 2016 for the beautification and betterment of Amsterdam NY and its environs. The mission of Grow Amsterdam NY is to conserve, create, and empower community managed greenspace through outreach programs and environmental education.

It started with finding answers to questions neighbors had about their recycling, and collecting their coffee grounds, egg shells and banana peels. We started the 78 Wall community garden to model what can be done with vacant lots. The Kimball Seniors garden has elevated beds so seniors don't have to bend over. We also host an organic CSA. Compost Works our community food-scrap drop-off program has processed over 16 tons of organics since 2019 and teaches composting to homeowners. The Pumpkin Smash is our signature event. Environmental education, community outreach and collection events inform and engage the broader community.
