The Rule of Law Program at Stanford Law School was established in 1999 with the goal of promoting policy-relevant scholarship on the rule of law in developing countries and creating opportunities for Stanford Law School students to responsibly engage in applied development work. Since 2007, we have operated the Afghanistan Legal Education Project (ALEP), a partnership between Stanford Law School and American University of Afghanistan in Kabul that provides quality legal education to future Afghan leaders.
