The Western Science Center Mission Statement "to inspire our community to discover the past, explore the present, and promote a sustainable future."

The Western Science Center is dedicated to the preservation, curation, interpretation, and presentation of archaeological and paleontological artifacts and fossils through education, research and service opportunities to the public and to students and faculty from educational institutions.

To advance knowledge and understanding of the environmental history, cultural heritage and the importance of water to life in the region, thus providing a scientific foundation for planning our future as well as providing an unparalleled opportunity to understand the inhabitants of this region from the Ice Ages through modern times.

A regional destination of the Inland Empire area of Southern California, Western Science Center's mission is to preserve, protect and interpret, for public benefit, the fossils, artifacts and natural history collections generated during the construction of Diamond Valley Lake. The value of these artifacts and fossils form the core of our educational programming. We focus on an object-based inquiry learning approach.

Approximately 40,000 educators, students and visitors experience first-hand fossils of the towering ice age animals that once roamed the Diamond Valley Lake area.
