Arizona Project WET

Acerca de

Arizona Project WET's mission is "promoting responsible water stewardship through excellent and effective water education."

Arizona Project WET and The Nature Conservancy are partnering to educate Arizona middle school students about their local watersheds, where their water comes from, and why it's so important to conserve water not only for us but to support healthy riparian ecosystems.

During the 2011 - 2012 school year, over 1,844 students participated in our Water Investigations Program, which is a curriculum of three units containing 12 lessons each. During the program, students conduct a school water audit, determining how much water is currently being used by measuring the rate of flow. Students then install new low flow aerators and then measure the water use again to determine how much water is being saved. During the 2011 - 2012 school year, students installed 2,075 aerators and calculated savings of 10,281,142 gallons of water per year. Students also work in small groups to develop a research question which they investigate during a field investigation trip toward the end of the year at the Hassayampa River Preserve near Wickenburg, Arizona.

Additionally, Arizona Project WET and The Nature Conservancy offer Water Festivals to 4th grade students in which the students engage in hands on activities at different stations during the day, helping to educate them on the importance of water.

Volunteers are integral to our success with this program, in particular with helping to facilitate field investigations and Water Festivals.
