Acerca de

OF NOTE is a nonprofit arts journalism initiative and free online magazine where art meets activism. We bring awareness to the innovative ways contemporary global artists use the arts to impact policy, promote global citizenship, inspire social consciousness, motivate action, and improve the state of the world.

With a commitment to under-the-radar artists, OF NOTE amplifies the voices and increases visibility of these artists who are often neglected in the media and who don’t usually make the headlines or front pages. Past issues include: The Gun Issue, The Unsheltered Issue, The Water Issue, The Burqa Issue, The Imprisoned Issue, The Immigrant Issue, The Girls Issue, and The Guyana Issue.

Our programming includes salons and gallery exhibitions, such as Liminal Space at the Caribbean Cultural African Diaspora Institute and Un/Fixed Homeland at Aljira, a Center for Contemporary Art, both which explored issues and ideas around migration. Recently, Race, Myth, Art and Justice at the Caribbean Cultural African Diaspora Institute featured twelve photographers engaging with the premise of "race" as a social construct rooted in myth.

OF NOTE’s work has also been featured in classrooms at The City College of New York where The Imprisoned Issue was used as a “textbook,” and as part of the curriculum for the “Artists, Social Change, & the Role of Journalism” course at New York University.

In its six years, OF NOTE’s work has been presented at the Museum of Modern Art, National Endowment for the Humanities, Independent Curators International, among others; highlighted widely in the press—including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Economist—and was awarded the 2014 Images & Voices of Hope (ivoh) Award for “Outstanding Media Project Committed to Constructive Change.”

*OF NOTE Magazine is a fiscally sponsored organization of the New York Foundation for the Arts, a 501 (c) (3), tax-exempt organization. Its online content of a diverse cohort of artists and writers exploring arts activism is free to readers, free of advertising, and free of subscriptions.
