Bridging the Gap Between the Disabled and Able-Bodied The mission of Beyond Disabilities, Inc. (BDI) is to provide innovative educational programs to nursing students and other medical professionals so they can provide high quality medical care to patients with disabilities. Considering the reality that 1 in 4 people currently living the in United States have some type of physical or sensory disability, it is critical that the next generation of nurses and other health care providers are prepared to effectively communicate with and treat patients who are deaf, hard of hearing, and/or disabled. Through humor, stories, cutting edge technology, and real-life scenarios, BDI’s President Keith Bonchek teaches his audience to be prepared, be aware of people’s unique needs, and actively communicate with patients who have a disability.
