The goal for the Shifting State Paradigms in Plastic Reduction Policy project, closely tied in with the Break Free From Plastic Pollution movement, is to achieve state-level policy changes that support zero waste communities, shift corporate behavior and reset broader U.S. culture towards reducing plastic pollution. This is being done through grassroots organizing, policy support, and movement building.
Project Collaborators include Surfrider Foundation, USPIRGs, StudentPIRGs, GAIA, Story of Stuff, Zero Waste Washington, Californians Against Waste Foundation, Clean Water Action, Seventh Generation Advisors, Safer States, National Caucus of Environmental Legislators (NCEL), Greenpeace and Oceana. Preparation is underway now for the 2022 legislative session and priority states include California, Washington, Colorado, Florida and New Jersey. The coalition is focused on creating ground-breaking regulation on industry to create meaningful achievements in the reduction of plastic and the reuse of products and packaging.
