Charleston Habitat for Humanity (CHFH) is non-profit, ecumenical housing organization. It builds safe, affordable homes and then sells them at affordable rates to low-income working families. These families work alongside volunteers to help build their homes.
CHFH provides a comprehensive package of services, including mortgage lender, home builder, social support provider, and recruiting and training center. Habitat works with low-income families earning only 35% - 60% of the area median income (up to 80% for veterans) to help them acquire the access, skills, and financial education necessary to be successful homeowners. Once accepted into the program, families complete financial and homeownership classes, pay an affordable 30-year, zero percent mortgage, and build equity for themselves and future generations of their families. Through shelter, we empower. Programs include: Homeownership Program, Critical Home Repairs, Veterans Build, Volunteer and Service Programs, ReStore (nonprofit home improvement store and donation center), Community Education and Advocacy.
In 2025, Charleston Habitat for Humanity and East Cooper Habitat for Humanity merged to form a unified, stronger organization-Charleston Habitat for Humanity. Together, we’ll expand our reach, increase our capacity, and make an even greater impact on affordable housing across the Charleston region. Together, we have built 182 new homes, renovated over 60 houses, and supported over 50 homes in Honduras - improving over 1,000 lives.
