Family Crisis Services

Family Crisis Services is the domestic violence prevention agency serving Cumberland and Sagadahoc Counties. We aim to create a society and ultimately a world where violence of all kinds is unacceptable.

The mission of Family Crisis Services is to provide programs that focus on: individual advocacy for battered women and their children; institutional change to assign responsibility of battering to the perpetrators; and community education on the abuse of women. We serve women, children, and men affected by violence, and we openly work against both heterosexual and same sex partner violence. Our goal is to create a society in which domestic violence and ultimately all violence is unacceptable.

Family Crisis Services was founded in 1979 by a largely volunteer staff. Volunteerism continues with our philosophy and identity as a community based organization that was born out of a grassroots model which encourages and models empowerment. Because the volunteer work is unpaid, it holds special significance to the women, children and men supported by it.
