Artolution, Inc

Artolution is an international not-for-profit arts and social change organization based in New York City. Since 2008, co-directors Joel Bergner and Max Frieder—first independently and later jointly— have led hundreds of community-based public art projects around the world, developing the Artolution process along the way. Artolution incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 2016 with a focus on developing sustainable programs in communities where they were active, by training local artists to lead ongoing Artolution programs in their own communities.

We believe that creating collaborative art is a powerful tool for bringing diverse communities facing conflict and social turmoil together to address challenges that they face and envision a brighter future. Artolution projects engage youth and vulnerable communities, including refugees, street youth, the incarcerated, people with physical and mental disabilities, and people living in areas of violent conflict or extreme poverty who have faced social exclusion and trauma.  We have organized and implemented these projects in partnerships with local artists and educators, grass-roots community groups, schools and international institutions across Latin America, Africa, North America, the Middle East, Europe, and the Asia Pacific region.
