history
Since the first lots were sold in 1909, OB residents have enjoyed taking walks and riding bikes to the beach to meet friends for coffee or a bite to eat. Ocean Beach was home to San Diego’s first large amusement park, Wonderland. Wonderland included 40 attractions, one being the largest roller coaster on the West coast, a casino, dance pavilion, a huge café that seated 650, it even included a zoo. It drew thousands to the beach every week. The Ocean Beach Pier was dedicated on July 2, 1966. It extends nearly half a mile to where the water is nearly 20 feet deep. Today Ocean Beach is the home of special events like the OB Street Fair and Chili Cook-off and the OB Holiday Parade, which attract thousands of visitors from the region and around the world.
