Acerca de

SUMMARY: The Thailand Project: Higher Education as Humanitarian Aid creates hope for at-risk children in Southeast Asia.

The non-profit uses creative concepts, strategic planning, and innovative solutions to fight against STATELESSNESS: the root cause of extreme poverty, child labor, child prostitution, and human trafficking in Thailand.

Through a groundbreaking partnership between The Thailand Project: Higher Education as Humanitarian Aid and the Development Education Program for Daughters & Communities (DEPDC) in Mae Sai, Thailand we have the opportunity to change history by enabling a new future.

DETAILS (Part I): Higher Education as Humanitarian Aid obtains and secures basic human rights (citizenship and/or travel documents) by partnering non-governmental organizations with American universities that agree to grant scholarships to stateless individuals who are barred from earning a degree within their country of birth.

The program challenges governments to first acknowledge the scholarship recipient and then authorize their freedom of movement, enabling them to study at an institution of higher education within the United States.

With permission granted and the freedom of travel gained, the scholarship recipient begins their academic studies abroad, exemplifying access to education and the hope of freedom to those with similar backgrounds.

Upon the completion of their chosen degree, the recipient applies the knowledge gained from higher education to fight statelessness and modern slavery within their country of origin.

DETAILS (Part II): The Thailand Project serves as the groundbreaking pilot of Higher Education as Humanitarian Aid and is a partnership with the Development Education Program for Daughters and Communities (DEPDC) in Mae Sai, Thailand.

Through extraordinary international cooperation, the Kingdom of Thailand made a landmark decision to allow two stateless individuals to study abroad in the United States; Thai Citizenship was granted to one and a Travel Document was granted to the other.

On August 25, 2008, the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point welcomed the first two Thailand Project scholarship recipients from DEPDC: Srinuan Saokumnuan and Fongtip Boonsri.

Their estimated date of graduation is May 2014.
